In short: Nice event and good seasonal spirit In full: Lovely course and scenery. The course is FLAT except one 'hill' (of no more than 50m of ascent). However being more of a trail route it certainly makes a pb very difficult... but not impossible as I ran it in my pb of 40:57 (however I hadn't done a 10k for over 6 months and have upped my training in the meantime!)
Well organised parking etc. but start a bit confused. Could do with at least separating sub 45 min runners as I got stuck at the back and took at least 3k to get back to where I should have been!
Goody bag is disappointing - empty!! I'd rather have a medal or the money be saved and go to charity (we get goody bags everywhere!)
Didn't get mince pie or mulled wine after.
Overall nice event though and even with the extortionate price (for a smaller 10k event) it is worth doing due to the festivities. Date of review: December 8, 2009
In short: Although expensive it is a larger event and takes in a beautiful city In full: I did this as my first HM last year and enjoyed it. There were some problems with the route etc. This year the route was perfect - lets hope it stays like that for future years!
The start was not great as it isn't at all larger events. It took me 3 miles to catch-up with the pacer i wanted to run against!
11000 people really is the most that I think Cardiff can take. Some sections are too narrow for more people. And Museum avenue (start/finnish) is not long enough for more!!! I hope the race organisers don't increase the number towards the rumours of 20,000 people as this many would definitely deter me.
It is a great half although seems steep cost. The goody bag was ok. The medals were good quality and benefited from the millenium centre at the bay being on them - something to which all runners can relate.
Its a fast course. Expect to run around half minute/mile faster than you do in training. Great opportunity for a PB. This is possible the flatest half marathon I know of.
All in all its a must do. How many times you can do it before getting frustrated by the cost I'm not sure, but a great event overall.
Thanks to all volunteers/supporters for turning out and making it a special event.
Race organisers: Please, please don't increase the capacity - 11k is more than plenty and more will start to detract from the event. Date of review: October 18, 2009
In short: Fast, flat course. Great 'goody bag' at the finnish. Lots of helpful marshalls. In full: Weather was almost perfect: 14C no wind. Sun made you sweat a bit in places!
Flat along rural roads and part of Chippenham town. Nice that they closed the first 2.5 Miles from Traffic. the rest of the course is quiet roads that doesn't need closures!
Lots of helpful marshalls - thanks to all of them!
Good start although the air horn didn't work to begin with! Sligh delay to start as no all runners there. Their fault, not the race organisers.
Number arrived with plenty of time in the post.
Excellent value: Chip timing and got a bag and wicking T-shirt (not just a cheap cotton on!), big race atmosphere and all for £17. Would definitely do again and at that price instead of other big HMs around like Bristol the week before.
One thing I would say is as its a 'bigger' even people certainly won't mind paying an extra quid for water bottles instead of cups as you just can't drink from them unless you slow right down!
Well done Chippenham Harriers: An excellent race! Date of review: September 13, 2009
In short: Great organisation, great marshalls, great scenery. A bit undulating but I proved a pb is possible! In full: Well worth a journey for. Great value. Great, friendly atmosphere. Good parking right by the finnish so not far to go at the end! Great Club - Thanks: I'll be back next year! Date of review: August 30, 2009
In short: Another good, worthwhile 10 in the south west. Good value. well organised. In full: Well worth a travel for. Cheap, well organised, nice views around the countryside and shearwater. Opening 5 miles are tough being up and down with inconsistency to pace. The final 5 are mainly flat/downhill with a short pull up to the finnish - so a fast final 5. Date of review: June 26, 2009
In short: If you are in the area and enjoy running have done a 5k or a 10k go for a 10. This scenic route is well worth it. In full: Although a tough mile up the Caen locks, the rest of the route is fairly easy (!) and a nice route. Well organised. Nice, friendly club and marshalls. Not expensive as runs go so why not give it a try? even a free bannana at the end and a medal! I will be back next year! Date of review: June 26, 2009
