In short: not an alternative to london others better In full: my second time at Brighton and to be honest i don't think any lessons have been learned from the past.. firstly toilets, simply not enough at the start, Pens, 3:15 to 4 hr is too broad a span for the red pen, a minute and a half a mile variance resulted in a log jam occurring in the first mile in the narrow roads. The water pouches were never opened sufficiently and i ended up tearing at them with my teeth to open them. The course itself apart from the first few miles is rather boring, three out and backs with by far the worse one being to Hove, it is simply never ending and completely soul destroying. Also running around a dock is not the most scenic nor fresh smelling location.. The support in the town itself and on the front in the central area was fantastic as always, yet i crossed the line feeling slightly let down by the whole experience.. Then to top it off a nice medal but a very poor quality cotton T shirt to end up being thrown in a drawer never to be used again.. Technical T shirt PLEASE! Date of review: April 9, 2014
In short: Be prepared In full: Yes it's tough but if I was fully got the hill wouldn't have killed me like It did. Organisation was very good, some of the Marshall's were exceptional, I really felt for those looking after the road junctions at mile 12, you can only tell unreasonable drivers so much and when one inched out at me I shouted and immediately got an apology from the Marshall, respect re that..
The first five miles bar a couple of bumps are pleasant but the sting is between 6 and 8, if you were undercooked like me then pain ensued quickly.. All the same just when you needed a pick up we either ran past a packed pub car park or a band.. The band and choir in t wells were great.. Just what I needed
All in all a great race, will I be back, yes if it fits and hopefully next time I won't have ran three miles before it starts due to marathon training! Date of review: March 2, 2014
In short: Mud, hills and cake In full: 1st Benfleet 15 and despite picking myself out the slop twice near the castle thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Good Marshall's throughout and well organised although the race director must have lost his wallet or something on the day he decided the route for the 1st three and last two miles as it was positively evil.... Even so, if you have a sense of humour or are slightly mad you will like me, be back.... Date of review: January 19, 2014
In short: Getting better and better In full: Slightly biased having race directed this year one, but with all seriousness having ran races around the country the DD is one of the best. The course, let's be honest is tough, especially on a windy day like today but this was tempered by the superb Marshall's, great support and superb scenery. Rarely do you work so hard in a race but enjoy it so much. Wells done to Barton and district ac and thanks for the goody bag and top quality tech tee.. See you next year !!!
In short: Not for the faint hearted In full: Fantastic second crack at this for me, ground was rock hard, although we were warned! Scenery superb and temperatures mercifully lower than last year. Great Marshalls and helpers and the best finishing experience of the year, beer, cake, fruit, whatever you wish, personally beer was my choice! Well done twh will be back. In short: Fast flat no frills In full: A few pinch points running in to runners coming the other way. Apart from that basics missing .... Drink station coming up... Really...... Date of review: November 19, 2012
In short: Faultless.... In full: Nothing else to say really, and would definitely not call it hilly, undulating yes, but fair... Equally so... Put that together with the faultless organisation of barton and district ac and it has to be THE must do race in lincs/yorks racing calendar for years to come... Well done everyone.. In short: Scenic, friendly and fun In full: What more could you ask for, friendly race, Marshall's and organisers, challenging course through beautiful parkland .. Top it off with kids races whilst I finish to keep them entertained and samosas too. Brilliant well done pets wood... Smply one of the best..... Date of review: October 14, 2012
In short: Loved it....will be back In full: First time at the new forest and have to say loved it, yes the weather was shocking but the support from the Marshall's and supporters first class.. They deserved a medal in that weather.... Course wise I thought it was quite quick, hills yes, but enough downhill to recover any time lost... My only gripe re the course is it would be good to have 800m, 600m, 400m and 200m marks as had I known where the finish was I would have opened up earlier....the finish was well organised but why oh why was the catering van on the opposite side of the finish, surely it's possible to have the tea inside in future! Other than that top notch and highly recommended... Date of review: September 24, 2012
