In short: Fab, friendly race and the best goody bag ever. If "other runners" count as scenery then the mark goes up to 5 :) Thanks to Sandbach Striders for your friendliness, and for a sound track that really made you want to run faster (and get it over with Date of review: November 6, 2011

In short: Unbeatable scenery, but a very tough technical route with far too few water stops and far too little value for money In full: The route cannot be bettered for scenery, and on a hot, sunny day it was staggeringly beautiful. Cut-off times for the 6 hour race were pretty tough and anyone in any doubt about doing this highly technical route in the time should sign up for the 7am, rather than 9am, start. My main grouse is that £39 entry fee is a rip-off: no chip timing, only 4 water and "nutrition" (=trays of broken Kendal mint cake)stations, a t-shirt and a non-specific medal. A bottle of water immediately on finish was very much missed. They said at the beginning that if you bailed out at a checkpoint you then had to make your own way back to the start - I hope that was a joke (luckily I didn't have to find out) Date of review: July 4, 2011

In short: Flat first half lulls you into a false sense of security before the hills hit! V friendly, nice atmosphere In full: Agonising delays getting there(BR then traffic), but then a really nice friendly race in absolutely glorious weather surrounded by quite gorgeous scenery. Nicest marshals anywhere! Thanks to all of you. Date of review: November 7, 2010

In short: Nice course but beware the wind! In full: I should have been warned the night before when the lamposts were swaying in the wind..! Running along the front was actually painful from being sandblasted - heard someone say it was like being in a Japanese game show, I thought it would be good prep for the Marathon des Sables, and ladies, don't bother paying a beautician for dermabrasion - just go and stand on Fleetood prom! Not sure the wind wasn't worse once you got away from the prom, though, when it was straight in your face as a Force 9 - felt like running whilst pushing a pram full of bricks [not that I ever have]. None of this of course is the fault of the organisers, who made everything go smoothly [even my skin is smoother now] and conjured up really nice medals at the end. Date of review: August 29, 2010

In full: Fabulous waves crashing next to - and sometimes over! - the course, yachts bobbing on the sea, spectacular town, very friendly and efficient organisation, and a flat course - what more could anyone want?
