In short: The hills at miles 9 & 11 are infamous, the marshals are amazing. One of the best races on the circuit In full: This was my second Marlow HM and I'll keep coming back. The scenery is just stunning, made even better this year without the driving rain. The hills are tough, but plenty of encouragement from fellow runners and the wonderfully enthusiastic marshals keeps you going. And a huge fan of the long sleeve t's. Well done Marlow Striders, a great race. Date of review: November 7, 2010

In short: the weather wasn't the only dampner on the event. In full: So you can't help the rain, but you can make up for the misery by having slick organisation. This was text book 'How NOT to organise a half marathon'. There was the usual loo shortage (more extreme in this case), but it was chaos at the start. This continued after the race began as people clearly did not start within their predicted time. Bottlenecks, pedestrians, street furniture and cars were some of the obstacles to contend with on the course. No mile markers that I could see.The finish line was already congested at 1.40 (let alone what it must have been like later on) with well wishers, chip removers and people handing out flyers. I really hope they raised a lot of money for charity, but I won't be back. Date of review: February 21, 2010

In short: Wet and hilly but what fun In full: As the rain was lashing in horizontally, I wondered not for the first time why I couldn't have taken up an indoor hobby, but the course, the marshalls and the fellow runners more than made up for the rather unpleasant conditions. Yes it is hilly in parts, but it only adds to the sense of achievement. Great organisation, great t-shirt (medals only gather dust). Will definitely be back. Date of review: November 2, 2009
