In short: Decent run by the sea, but could be much better In full: Good flat course, and was good to be able to run along the prom on closed roads. The atmosphere was lacking, especially on the second lap when all the HM support had vanished, but the finish was great, and lots of support and encouragement over the line.
The main problem was with the water, why was bottled water only at 10 and 23 miles? In an event this size the least you expect is bottled water, cupped water is close to pointless.
I can't fault the marshals, who were friendly and offered support (and many thanks to the marshal at about 22miles who gave me 20p for the loo!).
The entire event, though, just seemed to be done on the cheap, from the cupped water and fizzy lucozade, to the half cup of coke at the end. It didn't seem as though it was properly thought out and surely it wouldn't have cost that much to solve these small problems, which leave such a large negative impression.
I would do this event again, as it's fairly local and does have the potential to be a really good, fast marathon, but it just needs to sort out one or two problems. Date of review: April 13, 2010
In short: Fantastic race, perfectly organised. In full: This is the first time I've done the Ashby20 and it's a fantastic race which is very hard to fault.
The organisation was excellent, both at the beginning and especially at the best organised water stations I've seen. Many, many thanks to those who manned the water stations your encouragement was very much appreciated, and the availability of sweeties and gels was inspired. Great goodie bag at the end, with the best cheese butty I've ever eaten!
If you need a 20 mile training run, you'll be hard pressed to find a better one than this. Thank you for staging such a great event. Date of review: March 22, 2010
In short: Fantastic race round a beautiful park In full: A fantastic venue for a great race. definite PB potential on a flat traffic free course. The marshalls were brilliant and the organisation was good with a nice medal at the end. A must for all beginners and those seeking a quick race. Date of review: March 9, 2010
In short: Good first time HM for Warrington In full: A good race that will get better with time. The start was very congested (isn't it always) but other than that the course was quick with no major hills. The final lap of the track was brilliant, and the crowd helped lift my weary legs. A bit expensive, but the medal and the goody bag helped ease the pain of the price (just about!). Definitely one to do again and it was a good first running of the event. In short: Brilliant race, excellently organised 10/10 In full: My first time doing this event and it was fantastic. The course is fairlt flat, running on tree lined trails by the river, and the organisation and marshalling was superb. EVERYONE should do this event, if not for the PB potential, for a very worthy cause. I'll be back for the next one. Date of review: August 3, 2009
In short: Great Race, well organised, a beginners dream In full: Great race with good PB potential. Weel organised and signposted and the marshalls were superb in directing traffic and cheering on the runners. Great value for money as well. One quibble with the water station at 2.5 miles, it was just a little bit too early, maybe a second station was needed. I'll definately be entering again next year. Date of review: June 17, 2009
