In short: Great fun and bargain entry fee In full: Very well organised race and where else do you get a free feed afterwards. Very friendly encouraging marshalls. Not the quickest course in the world - theres not a great deal - but a good fun morning out. Thanks DDT - great to see a small club be able to put a good road race on. In short: Great race - highly recommended In full: Very well organised race and a good sense of fun - the "John Motson" style announcer was a hoot. Brilliant marshalls and very well organised. Had an problem with the chip timing and was initially missed off the results but the scarily efficient race director soon got that sorted and arranged for Power of Ten to be updated. He even personally handed over the prize I should have got on Monday evening - hows that for service! I could probably manage without the meal worms in the goody bag so that would be my only request for next year - less worms and more chocolate. Date of review: December 11, 2012

In short: Good race but issues with the chip timing system In full: 3rd time running this one and I will be back again next year. Well marshalled course and can't blame Barnsley AC for the roadworks near the finish which must have caused them a few headaches. Think there were problems with the chip timing system. I was missed off the results completely to start with and then given a time which was 10 seconds slower than I actually ran. Looking at the results, there would seem to be something strange going on as lots of chip times are slower than gun times. Surprised by how many were running with ear phones in listening to music which is dangerous on a course that is not traffic free.Maybe race referees need to start getting tough on this issue and banning ipods and the like. In short: Brilliant day out In full: Cant recommend this one highly enough. Unusual distance but nice and short so the pain is over quickly. Village Fete is charming and theres a fell race as well for those who fancy it. Bargain entry fee and generous prizes. Great tea and cakes in the village hall What more could you ask for? In short: Only thing wrong was the weather In full: Nothing to moan about - well organised race. Good course and virtually flat compared to what I am used to! Thanks to all the encouraging marshalls who stood out in appalling weather. Extensive prize list and good facilities at the school pre and post race. Also thanks to the organiser for bringing the prize giving forward a bit - everyone was a bit wet and cold so it was good not to have to hang around afterwards. Date of review: March 5, 2012

2012 23rd Great North West Half Marathon * Runnner's World pacing race with pacers 7 to 12 minute miling*

In short: Very poor organisation In full: First off this is a good flat course and good for PB(if not windy) Blackpool sea front is Blackpool sea front. I was staggered at the amount of dog dirt on the front - however all of that is outside of the orgnisers control.
What is in their control was the total chaos at the start by bringing all the runners to the line through the start meaning many of the slower runners could not get to the back. I last did this in 2010 and then the loop towards the tower was midway through the race not at the start. This lead to lapping many runners over the last 3 miles. No instruction was given at the start for lapped runners to stay left and not impeed the faster runners. The worst culprit for this was the runners world pace group blocking the whole course. However one thing that did plesantly surprise me was the number of runners lapped who shouted encouragement after i passed them - thanks to all of you - I found all marshalls and the chip collectors friendly and encouraging that however can not be said of the staff at the Hilton who appear to have been on a "how to be rude and aggressive to potential customers" course prior to the event. Having paid £20 to enter why cant numbers and chips be posted ? I am not to bothered by goody bags full of flyers that go straight in the bin, but I just dont get a pair of 50p non running socks ! What was the point in that ? The medal was a vast improvement on the one given in 2010
This could be a fantastic race but it does leave a bitter taste for the price charged you do come away thinking it was organised on the cheap . Date of review: March 3, 2012

In short: Who knew Stockport was so scenic? In full: Very well organised race. Generous cash prizes to attract the elites plus interesting goody bag, long sleeved technical tee shirt, spot prizes and unique soap on a rope medal for the less fleet of foot. Shame on the scrotes who knicked the water station but top marks for arranging alternative supply at short notice. Special mention to Tony Audenshaw for the very funny commentary. Oh and thanks to the marshals especially the nice looking one outside Pear Mill who was doing a great job directing traffic. Date of review: December 13, 2011

In short: Tough race made even tougher by the rain In full: What a shame about the weather! The torrential rain did not make the off road section much fun. Tough hilly course makes this race a bit of a challenge but enjoyable. Nice to be able to look round the show before and after and lots of good stuff to eat and drink. Accurate mile markers, plenty of water stations and marshalls where you needed them. I wasnt very happy being kept waiting on the start line in torrential rain waiting for last minute entrants to arrive - if you are going to enter on the day you need to get there in good time. People had to hang around for the prize presentation for an awful long time which sounds a bit ungrateful and I am not - they were good prizes - just would have rather got away home and dry a bit quicker.
