In short: My favorite of 2010 (9th race)
In full: This was my favorite of the 9 marathons that i have completed this year. The pre and post race organisation was superb, and the "race village" reminded me of a scaled down version of London but with supporter access and more things to do.

The course in my opinion is set up primarily for the 1/2 marathon that takes place in tandom with the marathon, taking in the University grounds, the city centre and other leafy parks.

The marathon then heads out to the Water complex and in my opinion it was hard to continue to pound out the miles round an uninspiring lake. However, i appreciate that it must be near impossible to find the perfect course that ticks everyones ideas of racing motivation.

I will definately be back, as i set a new PB and managed to finish under 4 hours for the 1st time ever.

Thank you to all that helped on the day giving up their time so that I and thousands of others could spend the morning/afternoon running rounnd Nottingham.

For those that are thinking of running a half or marathon in the future this is one of the best.

In short: An undulating course through the essex countryside
In full: Arrived at the venue without incident and was happy with the facilities that were on offer, better than some places that i have run in.

The course was fairly hilly and was well marshalled with a range of drinks and food at the many drinks stations. The option to have your own drinks delivered to those stations was also a nice touch, it reminded me of the elite runners at the London marathon!

I did not have my best experience due to "1ll health" so i will have to return again to run it properly.

Sincerely thank you to all involved in the setup and running of the event and all the support of my fellow runners.

In short: Good course on closed roads up and down the main high street of Blackpool
In full: A lot of negative comments about the organisation and facilities that i just did not experience. There was plenty of everything and the local population gave support along the way.

This course is fast but not easy as there are undulations and quiet stretches away from the Prom but another PB for me and i would consider the 5 hour + drive to do it all again

In short: if you like hills in your training runs you will love this race
In full: Firstly i have to point out that i posted a PB. The official chip time was 1:40:01 which is 6 minutes faster than Maidstone two weeks ago and two minutes faster than my previous best at Hastings.

Some other people to thank were Clare, a runner from Harlow and a man who i know as Virgin Mac man, who i had the pleasure of running with on the 2nd lap and although we did not speak i feel that we helped each other round...

I must also say a big thank you to the marshalls they were brave souls standing in the rain to aid us runners.

This is a good race that works well, i understand the argument of two laps vs an extended one lap using the extensive cycle paths but i like this race and will happily sign up again for next year, and will pray for better weather.

In short: Tough, and sometimes lonely course
In full: This was my 2nd marathon and i was looking forward to the flat 2nd half of the race which offered the prospect of a negative split. I found it the hilliest "flat" race i have ever run.

At times this had the feeling of being out training (less IPOD) than a race as there were stretches of beautiful coastal paths that had no other souls other than the few runners running at my pace. A marathon though is so much more than a 5 or 10k race and it is down to the individual to keep pace and consistency, you can not blame the course or organisors.

That said the marshalls were fantastic, and the locals did support you when you ran past. I would definately run this again and with my experience from this year will be able to better my experience this year.

Well done to Thanet AC - i look forward to returning.
