In short: Excellent event - fast course In full: It was perfect running weather so I finally ran well here and knocked 3 minutes off my pb.
Really well organised event - perfect for beginners. Course is nice and flat and scenery distracts you from the exertion. Well supported, particularly the last half mile. Date of review: April 12, 2013

In short: My Favourite Race In full: As always - superb.
Fantastic organisation, lovely course, great support and even the quality of the medal is back on track after last year's effort.
I always run fast (for me) in this one despite Spring Hill and did so again this year. I hardly noticed the miles it is such a great event. Date of review: March 4, 2013

In short: Even better than last year In full: This is a fabulous event. The organisation and marshalling is superb.
The course is tough though. I went out hard in the first half and paid for it - but that's my stupid fault!
This is going to become one of the must-do races in the running calendar. Date of review: September 23, 2012

In short: Great race but leave your watch at home In full: Fantastic organisation and marshalling - there seemed to be drinks stations almost every mile! It is hilly over the last 5 miles (1 of them was ridiculously steep) but the main problem for me was the terrain - if you like running in mud, farmer's fields and on rutted, single-track paths then this is for you! Forget about times - I ran 75 seconds per mile slower than road speed (although this made a pleasant change to be honest). Not sure I'll be back as I feel lucky not to have turned an ankle but can't fault this as an event. Date of review: July 1, 2012

In short: Excellent Event but oh so tough In full: This was a fabulous event but the course is very tough. I had done it before so I knew what to expect but I felt so sorry for newbies who would have been heartened by the "it's all downhill from here" shouts only to find they were untrue (why do people do that? It doesn't help).
The only improvement would be a proper baggage drop.
Missed my pb by 10 seconds (!) but in the final two miles I was so completely cooked by the sun and the preceding climbs that it was a miracle I even finished! Date of review: March 26, 2012

In short: Excellent as always In full: Well, I got a pb rather unexpectedly. Weather was fabulous, the course was glorious as always and the organisation first class.
If I was being really picky, it gets a bit congested in the race hq at the beginning but it's not a big deal. All around the course there were dozens of marshals - completely astonishing the amount of voluntary support this race attracts. Date of review: February 26, 2012

2011 Larking Gowen City of Norwich Half Marathon

In short: Excellent Event In full: My first time at this one but I shall be back - not least because I bagged a pb by 2 mins despite the howling wind. Great course and although it isn't actually flat, the inclines are nothing and the downhill more than compensates.
I thought it was extremely well organised - well done CONAC.

In short: Superb First Event In full: Yes, it was tough at times (no individual hill was a killer - they kind of cumulatively get you in the end) and it was warm and I went off too fast so I paid in the end. But, this was a seriously good first event - all credit to the organisers and to the spectators who were awesome.

In short: Really nice event - but very tough ! In full: A very well organised event - excellently marshalled.
The course is tough - the first 6 miles are up and down then there is a steeper climb at 7 miles. Miles 8-9 were in some ways the hardest - flat but along a main road into a headwind. Then that very steep climb at 10 miles. For the first time ever I was reduced to walking at the top! Last 3 miles were easier though and nice to finish on the track.

2011 GDF Suez Leeds Half-Marathon

In short: Tough Race in difficult conditions In full: Am still coming to terms with the second half of this race apparently being downhill - it certainly didn't seem that way yesterday as it felt like there were a number of long uphill drags in the (very dull) last 3-4 miles! As for the last half mile - tired legs did not appreciate the uphill finish!
Otherwise - liked water in bottles - much needed on a very humid day. Headwind ruined any pb chance for me even though I had kept some in reserve from the two big hills (which are actually ok).
I would only do it again if the course was changed to make it more interesting. Thanks though as always to the marshals and volunteers. Date of review: May 9, 2011
