In short: The best yet! In full: Where to start? A new course, the most extreme weather and the best marshals I've ever come across. They were awe-inspiring and helped keep spirits up. A special mention to the marshal at mile 11 (ish) - "pom poms" plus Jelly Babies and Mars Bars - who was bright and cheery despite the minus temperatures and horizontal sleet/snow coming down. Well done BRC Date of review: January 21, 2013
In short: Excellent organisation and good crowds In full: I raced this in 1997 and 1998, but haven't been back since.....pleased to say that it's gone from strength to strength. Organisation is excellent, crowds enthusiastic, more marshalls and water stations than I remember. The only downside seemed to be more cars on the route, but there's not a lot the organisers can do about that other than arrange an earlier start time - but do we want that? Thank you Brentwood. In short: Cold, windy, and challenging...... In full: I almost stopped after 4 miles, but thought that as I'd done the training, the pain would be worth boasting the 2006 T-Shirt.........but was mistaken. Thanks to all the happy marshalls! Date of review: January 30, 2006
In short: Lots of marshals with good signposts In full: Loads of toilets at the start, but never made it inside the main hall (the missus says bacon sandwich was good). Lots of marshals on the course, KMs were well marked (and seemed accurate to me) and even the water station at 7KM was advised in advance - good thinking.
I'm sure the organisers would have arranged less wind & rain if that were possible, but if you're racing in November, then what are people expecting? As for the parking, that was forewarned on the website (I parked near the finish, as opposed to the start, making for a really quick exit).
And I liked the chocolate medal - I really don't need another T Shirt and for £5 the race represents good value (I'm sure that I saw some people with mugs - were these optional/payable extras?) Date of review: November 8, 2005
In short: Gets better every year In full: This is the 6th or 7th time that I've run in this race, and I believe that it's getting better year on year.
Don't blame the organisers for the locked toilets near the start - they expected them to be opened but the local Council shut the loos the previous day due to vandelism.
It will be improved when the organisers come up with some new boards to let people line up at the start in their predicted finish times - the existing ones are out of date and do not reflect the changing profile of the race. Next year perhaps? Date of review: October 4, 2004
