In short: A fun run, well organised In full: I ran my first marathon last week, so wanted to do a shorter and enjoyable run. This fit the bill. Its a run around the airport mostly off road on tracks. In places the ground is uneven and you need to be careful of your footing. It was a dry day today, if it had been wet you would need to take more care.
A very friendly race everyone was most helpful. Marshalls were good, parking was good. It gets a good vote from me.
I may well join you again next year. Thank you. Date of review: September 21, 2014
In short: Great race through Sherwood In full: This is a super race. It is all off road around on firm tracks around Sherwood Pines.
It was the third time for me, and I do intend to return next year.
This year was nothing short of a deluge. It was torrential rain all around. Once you accepted there was no point in running around the water, then all was fine. We all got very wet, but a great time was had. I suspect there were not too many PB's this year. The ground held up though and was firm. Even the finish on the grassy area was fine ... this was probably as we were wading to the finish line :-)
Organisation was great (as usual). High praise to all the marshalls who stood out in the pouring rain giving support to the runners, and for the organisers for letting the run go ahead. I spent time on Saturday preparing myself for a cancellation.
In short: Hard run but so pleasing on the eye In full: I entered this run with some trepidation with regards to the hills. It is a hard course with a very hard 3 mile uphill start. Once you are over that the views are fantastic and you start to remember why you run. What goes up, usually comes down, and indeed there were some long down hill stretches to enjoy.
Forget the stop watch, just take part and enjoy the wonderful Derbyshire countryside.
Organisation was superb, the marshals were very supporting and the water stations also very friendly.
Of all the runs I have ever done, I feel that this was probably the hardest and probably the most rewarding. If Carling did Half Marathons ... this would be it.
See you next year. Thanks to everyone involved. Date of review: May 25, 2014
In short: A hard start and then a very fast middle & end In full: This was my third time and I will be back again.
The first 4k is hard - make no bones about it. Its one long hill that goes to the 4k mark. Once you are there its flat/down for just about the whole of the remaining 6k.
For me I got my fastest mile, my fastest 1k and my fastest 5k. Unfortunately this was on top of a slow 4k at the start. For me it was about 3-4 minutes slower than a less severe 10k.
But its a great run, scenary is good, organisation is good. Its a smashine run and I will be back next year. Well done to everyone involved in making this such a super and friendly ittle run. Date of review: May 11, 2014
In short: Super race - you should not miss this one In full: This is an absolutely fantastic race. I have run in around 100 events now and this was by far the most organised. You are fully up to date via facebook .. we knew the water had arrived :-)
Course is flat and mostly rural. The locals were out in force shouting encouragement. As the numbers had our name on them .. you keep hearing your name as you go around - great.
Marshalls were superb, they were extremely enthusiastic and it really helped.
I honestly can't fault it in any way at all. I will certainly be back next year. And yes I am so pleased to say I knocked 4 minutes off my 20 year old half marathon PB. I'm a very happy chappie.
Many many thanks North Lincs you did such a good job. Date of review: May 4, 2014
In short: A low key, scenic and mostly flat race In full: I enjoyed this race a great deal. It is around Rother Valley (which is flat) and then away from the lakes for a couple of miles. There is a hill at the 6 and 11 mile marker that takes effort, but other than that it really is flat.
Organisation was fine and the marshalls were great. The field was around 100 runners, and it felt very friendly.
The mile markers were mostly absent ... but most have a Garmin these days.
Smashing race, and I would certainly enter it again. Date of review: March 24, 2014
In short: A challenging run this year In full: This seems to be a fairly low key race. Its a mixture of town and rural (2 laps) with 3 significant inclines. The wind seemed to hinder progress up at least 2 of them this year. Marshalls were supportive and it was well organised.
A couple of minor suggestions:
At the start we had a marshall shouting instructions to us - he needed a maga phone.
Had to queue for water at the end in a relatively small space, I felt this could have been arranged better.
Ideally a tech t-shirt.
But I am being critical. The race was fun and good value. Congrats to Barnsley for arranging it and thank you marshalls for your support. Date of review: March 17, 2014
In short: Great new course, same old superb organisation In full: A new course this year. To me the first half felt very fast and the second half a little harder (not helped by a little wind here and there). It was rural and largely without traffic.
It was great for me, running the first half and getting a little time in the bag to cover the second half.
The marshalls were great, parking is easy and a good t-shirt. Absolutely nothing to complain about, will be back next year. Well done to all involved. Date of review: December 15, 2013
