In short: Thought this was great, despite the heat In full: Excellent organisation, fantastic to have sponges before each water station and water every 2 miles, very generous and the local residents were really kind to put hosepipes out for us to run through a cold shower - I think about 5 or 6 in all which was much appreciated given the heat. Friendly runners and the orange quarters and scrummy flapjacks were a much appreciated treat at the end. Thanks to all, I really enjoyed it even tho that last hill nearly broke me! In short: See longer notes ! In full: The venue was great and I'm really pleased 100% of proceeds have gone to such a worthy cause BUT... really disappointed in the distance as it was so obviously well over the 10k. I was using this race as a clue to PB potential at London in 2 weeks but there was absolute no point using this run as a guide - my 10k PB is 43mins and I was hoping for about 46 to show I was on track but came in at 50:52!! Was 2nd lady but nothing to show for it - not even a recording of my time or position to stick in my sad little collection of racing successes!! Was also disappointed that there were no mile markers (but that all makes sense now given the extended distance!). If we are indeed 'racing' and don't have the luxury of a Garmin the only possible measurement of our speed is measuring between each distance marker. Also, my friend finished in just under an hour but was given no more than an inch of water in a cup as they "were running low....". Given 500 were expected, she was nowhere near the back, and the forecast was for a 'warm one' I'm not sure who did the calculations here but there you go......Finally, the traffic issues towards the end were a bit much too, given it was hot, were tired, having been promised traffic free then having to deal with cars travelling impatiently against you on the run in was a bit irritating. Mike D has much enthusiasm and his past successes getting the Somerley 10k up and running are fantastic (that event suffered this year as he no longer has involvement) but I think this needs a few more niceties to make it a good un. Hopefully these comments won't be regarded as too negative, overall I really enjoyed it but next year could be so much better still. Thanks Mike! Date of review: April 8, 2007

In short: Done it every year but now Poole AC have become involved I felt it was a poor shadow of its former self. In full: They should NOT have delayed the start for club runners just because it's part of a group of races their members qualify for. It was a cold, windy day and we were only told 10 mins before the start that there would be a half hour delay. Because we had arrived in a timely fashion we had no cash to take advantage of the refreshments, either for us or our brave not quite hardy supporters. Previous years have seen a clearly defined finish with time clock but there was a change to the course this year and we had no sight of the finish point at all, you simply couldn't see it until on top of it. I know it's muddy, it always is given its location and time but I don't think the change of course helped either. All in all it was very disappointing compared to previous years but the Mars Bar was nice! Date of review: January 3, 2007

In short: Was really well organised-loads of friendly marshalls, mainly quiet country roads, water every 3 miles or less. A great Marathon build-up with some really friendly and supportive runners. Date of review: August 24, 2004
