In short: Nice run along the river Thames In full: Unfortunately due to the heavy rain on the previous day, the course was very muddy for several stretches of the race. This added additional challenges especially at the ‘kissing’ gates where the ground was particularly bad.
To further rule out any chance of a PB, I was with a group of runners who somehow managed to go the wrong way during the last km. Not too sure how this happened, but we ended up having to queue to climb a fence as well as running an extra 100 meters or so – this added an extra 40-50 seconds to our times which was a bit frustrating. Maybe the final stages of the race could have been better marked out – something to sort out for next year?
Saying all of the above, this is a nice flat run along the Thames and one I would do again – hopefully when it hasn’t rained the day before though!
In short: Fantastic Race - Highly Recommended In full: This is a very nice route run along country roads and through local villages. The first 5 km is slightly undulating but nothing too challenging, I think it was around the 6 km mark where a fairly tough hill popped up which was followed by another one directly after getting to the bottom of the first!
This is an excellent event especially if you have young children - my two boys had a great time, they loved watching the dog show, going on various rides, boarding the helicopter etc.
In short: Excellent Race will definitely be back next year In full: The race was really well organised and the marshalls were excellent.
As expected the course was fairly challenging- inclines, tight corners & single tracks and because of the rain had a few slippery patches in places. The headwind was also fairly noticeable especially towards the latter stages of the race!
I also got bit held up at the start of the race and didn’t really get into my running until about half a kilometre or so. This was probably my own fault though for starting quite far back in the field.
Overall I have no complaints, the race was as expected and I will definitely be back next year.
In short: Fast and flat, great for beginners. In full: This was my first 10km race and I found the event very beginner friendly. Slightly windy on some of the long straight stretches but apart from that a great opportunity for a fast run! Will be back next year... Date of review: September 7, 2009
