In short: Fantastic. You must do this marathon. Beautiful scenery, excellent marshals, well supported. Thank you Halstead & Essex Marathon
In full: I couldn't fault this marathon. Everything from the fantastic organisation, glorious weather, friendly marshals, great course, enthusiastic spectators to the medal and goody bag was A1. Many thanks to everyone involved.

In short: All round fantastic first ultra, can't fault it
In full: First ultra and one of the best races I've ever been in - course, friendliness, check points, finish - all brilliant. Many thanks to Rory and Jen for fantastic organisation. Highly recommended.

In short: Dull, shadeless, hilly course along busy roads. Very well organised though
In full: Managed a PB but it wasn't much fun. I'm sure a more inspiring course would help. Relentless pavement running (some very narrow and overgrown) alongside busy roads wasn’t exactly pleasant. On the hottest day of the year so far there were just about enough water stations, but only just – I was pretty desperate each time I arrived. The guy hosing down runners from his garden at mile 12 was an absolute angel. On the plus side, it was very well organised and good value for money as long as you don’t mind the absence of goody bags, medals etc. (for this reason it may not be the best half for a first timer).

In short: Well organised and and well supported race. Not great for a PB.
In full: Great organisation and enthausiastic crowds made for an enjoyable run. Difficult course for PBs because of hills that felt worse than they looked! Two lap course meant you knew what was coming up on the second lap - depressing!

Great goody bag and smart medal.

Know people who took over an hour to get out of the car park. My advice: run fast and leave early!
