In short: great prep for London - well organised & nice course In full: First-timer and will definitely do again. Lovely route along the Thames which I will repeat for some training runs. A little muddy at points and some off road terrain but still a reasonably fast course. The out and back route is great for marathon pacing if you want to split the race in half. Very well organised and great having pacers. Great refreshments and home baking at the finish. Because of type of event, the course and time there is not much support from the public on the course but I have rated it higher because of the great support from marshals and fellow runners. In short: great organisation and support In full: Really impressed with this event. I was miserable before the start because of the conditions but the organisers, marshals and public on the course turned what could have been a nightmare into a fanastic day. The crowd support was well abover average for a raise of this kind - really helped the runners on the day. Only annoying thing (caused by the weather) was the really muddy finish but I don't think there was a lot that could have been done. Date of review: March 19, 2013
In short: Friendly, laidback, scenic and PB potential In full: Glorious day in a beautiful setting, worth making the trip for. Loved the classic music in the build up to the race, helped me relax. Great having Mark Richardson there, that was quite a coup, and he was really friendly. I didn't realise about the t-shirt, I must have been wearing it wrong way round! I got a PB although it's been a few months since my last one but I imagine it is pretty good PB potential as fairly flat, only a couple of inclines. Would def do again next year. In short: Nice event, only issue was directions! In full: I want to try not to be too critical here as in the main the event was very well organised and a lot of fun. Unfortunately there were too many occasions where it just wasn't clear where to run! There seemed to be plenty of marshals, but not always at the critical points where it's ambiguous!
A nice chap just on front of me even ended up falling down a flight of steps during the first K or 2 of the race after the first u turn, after going in the wrong direction - and of course I had followed him! And yes, there were too many u turns but mabye that's someting that just can't be avoided.
But there were some big pluses as well, aside from the marshalling the event was very well organised. We were able to collect race numbers and t shirts yesterday in advance of the race, and as someone has already mentioned, a lovely warm building to shelter in before and after the race. And the spread that was put on after the race plus goody bags and t shirts made the event both enjoyable and good value for money in comparison to other events.
Overall, depsite the marshalling being an issue for me and costing me time (although I did get my PB!) I would definitely do this race again! Date of review: February 28, 2010
In short: Excellent Day! In full: My view is slightly biased as I got my PB but was very impressed on all fronts with this event. Friendly atmosphere, very encouraging stewards (even had a few fisherman and dog-walkers cheer me on), good value for money and a beautiful day with some nice backdrops. Will definitely be back next time. Date of review: October 18, 2009
