In short: Very friendly atmosphere and excellent organisation In full: The demanding hill (whichever way round you run this event) means that PBs are most unlikely. However, everyone seems to relish the challenge and the views from the top and on the way up are stunning. The friendliness of the organisers, marshals and everyone involved makes this a race well worth doing. Date of review: December 30, 2012

In short: Very poor organisation for baggage collection In full: I completed the race ion a reasonable time 3.41. The organisers tried to get us to the start far too early considering the conditions. At the end I had to queue in the rain and wind to collect my bag. It was chaotic and in the end I had to receive medical attention due to standing in the cold and rain after 26.2+ miles. Poor goody bag considering the entry price, nowhere to change in the dry - Mc Donalds were superb in allowing use of their loos! The weather was a problem but there were warnings for days prior to the event. They could not seem to adjust. Avoid this event. Date of review: May 2, 2012

In short: A lovely race on a good day for running In full: Car Parking was a little difficult as was leaving the car park after the event. Other than that the whole experience was excellent. Well done to all concerned. Date of review: November 9, 2011

In short: Just a brilliant day In full: No wonder that this Marathon is a favourite and entries close within days. The organisation is exceptional and they even arranged for the weather to be cool. still and dry with the sun only coming out near the end! The only downside is the double passage through an industrial estate but if this is the cost of keeping the flat, fast course so be it. The marshalls were most supportive and made up for the small crowds by the intense enthiusiasm and noise that they generated. Well done Abingdon, more of this please. Date of review: October 18, 2011

In short: Another race to put away your watch and just enjoy In full: Don't even think of a personal best unless it is your first half marathon. But what an outstandingly relaxed atmosphere and what wonderful countryside to enjoy even in the pouring rain. Well done to everyone involved in the organisation. Date of review: July 17, 2011

In short: Just an excellent race In full: I do this race each year. On reaching the top of the first hill, I vow never again but then begin to think that racing is not all about personal bests. You need to put your watches away and just enjoy this one. There are not many places in the country where you would get such views at such a bargain price! Date of review: June 27, 2011

2011 Mansfield Stars and Stripes Half-Marathon

In short: It is not pleasant running on the pavement alongside very busy main roads In full: Very disappointing!. I have run the Mansfield half on several courses but this was, in my opinion, the worst. The noise and fumes from very heavy traffic accompanied runners for most of the first half of the course. In other stretches the pavement was only suitable for single file running. There were no T shirts (unless you paid) or medals or goody bags. This was not a bad thing as it might well have kept the price of entry down. I found great difficulty finding my way back to the road I wanted after the event as many roads were closed. Very good for safety of runners but more information on this would have been helpful. Having said all that, the marhalls were excellent and most supportive. The atmosphere in the park was very good and the parking first rate. Special thanks to the man with a hose pipe round about mile 12! Date of review: June 26, 2011

In short: Always worth doing, best 20 in the Midlands In full: Magnificent offerings at water stations - I needn't have carried my gel belt. First rate encouragement from marshalls. Excellent organisation. Of the three 20 mile races in the Midlands today, this must have been the best. Date of review: March 13, 2011

In short: Very friendly, great marshalls and excellent organisation In full: I did the Roman 1X many years ago and it was very good. This was even better. Everyone was so friendly and relaxed without sacrificing efficiency and concern for safety. As I do no other 12k races this has the potential of a personal best every year! Well done Stratford AC Date of review: January 19, 2011
