In short: London Marathon Virgin - WOW brilliant - dont forget the ballot opens on Tuesday! In full: Great day, bit hot - what else is there to say. Agree with other comment - amazing to see marshalls carrying people to the end, shows the understanding of the spirit and committment shown by everyone invovled.
HUGE respect to the crowds that were everywhere Best atmosphere of any race ANYWHERE! Roll on 2012 Date of review: April 19, 2011
In short: What a day - but I wish I could read a map! In full: Beautiful sunny day, bit of cloud would have been nice, but would have ruined the scenery really.
Well organised, some markers were bit confusing/got moved. Got lost 4 times in all, but 3 of those we due to me talking to other people and not paying attention. So also did almost 33 miles in all.
Really well organised checkpoints every 10k. Water, cake, gels, flapjacks you name it. Took my own so had to carry, wish hadnt bothered now!
Some steep bits but nothing lengthy. Muddy in patches but considering the rain the night before incredible that more of the course wasnt ankle deep mud.
Agree finish of people eating and drinking in the summer sun was a bit cruel but they all applauded the finishers which was really nice and put a big smile on my face.
Thank you Rory and Jen for a great day out, see you again sometime soon. Was slightly apprehensive about my first Ultra but the organisation and the atmostphere put me totally at ease and I just enjoyed it from start to finish - bar the 2.5 hours drive home to Bristol that is.
In short: Hot, quick, brilliant. Sort out the buses for next year, few more signs wouldnt go a miss! In full: My first marathon, drove up from Bristol the night before and back again straight after, so needed to get away quickly. 1 and 20 mins to get back into City centre and a 20 min walk to buses, once I found out which direction to go in, wasnt really what I fancied doing.
This said loved the day - very hot, but somehow managed to get round in my 'if everything goes to plan' target time. Which considering the weather Im stoked about!
Medal and Tee shirt - brilliant. But agree with others chaos at the end, although I did get in before mass finish, and left very quickly so not as bad as it appears others had to deal with.
Will be back, dont know about next year, but one day, try and improve the PB in 2012 maybe.
Final thanks to the supports, which although not on VLM scale as someone says, given some of the rural towns we went through really vocal and encouraging. Especially the kids and the hoses, mind readers at 20 miles +!!
Really dont like the plastic boards on the grass, not what you need when your struggling to lift your foot high enough, but brilliant grandstand finish so will let them off. Date of review: May 24, 2010
In short: Too many people - poor organisation In full: I managed to do a PB 1:38 so I missed most of the bottle neck other reviewers mention. I friend finsished in 1:52 and got stuck behind the Rugby Club in the cold for 45 mins, like sardines freezing cold. People collapsing because of cramp.
Garmin said 13.25 due to zig zagging to get some space, first 3 miles really held me up. Agree with another reviewer not as flat as most claim, although Bath is very hilly in the main, so cant complain about that.
Medal and Tee are good quality but rest of goodie bag was crappy free bees that end up straight in the bin.
Excellent atmosphere - huge thanks to the crowds and the massive numbers of Marshalls - thanks!!
Enjoyed the experience of big numbers and big crowds but will be sticking to smaller club organised events in the future - much better organsation and less hanging around before and after.
In full: Congratualations to Bedford Harriers for organising a brilliant race! First time so dont know how bad the transport was last year but the buses were perfect. Very cold start but we got there early and didnt have any of the chip collection issues others seemed to have. Only 2nd time raced the distance but despite hills managed to take 7 mins of PB, loved the downhill towards the finish. Special mention to the marshalls who were all brilliant - ty. Also well done to the guys dressed as Santa at least you would have been warm! Be back next year!! Date of review: December 22, 2009
In full: First half race - organisation was very good - weather was cold - didnt help that ran through ford on the airfield on 2nd lap, chilled entire body lost 3 minutes through walking as a result. All in all enjoyable race, travelled from Bristol to run so not sure if will come back again next year. Excellent race for regional locals Date of review: December 22, 2009
