In short: Sorry, not good!! In full: Having done this race last year, and bearing in mind it was the first time they had organised it, i was reletively pleased, so decided to return this year. What a mistake! It is clear the organisers have good intentions but this year was dire. The results were mucked up last year, so they opted for chip timing this year. However the price was massively increased, and for a race this small chip timing is not really needed. Collection of numbers was smooth and efficient. Coursewise, they have changed part of it for the worst. It's harder and measures up at over 10K. My biggest gripe was the marshalls. There were plenty of them, but hardly and supported runners. Also, personally I was running for long periods on my own,and I found that when I got to a junction most marshalls just stood there and gave no direction. They may as well stayed at home and enjoyed fathers day because they didn't seem to want to be there. I wished i'd saved my money and stayed at home too! Date of review: June 19, 2011

2011 Fen Drayton Lakes 10K

In short: Good effort for first race in 20-odd years! In full: Apparently this is the first time in over 20 years that Fen Drayton has held a proper road race, and they did a decent job. There was a field of around 200 runners with good support at the end from marshalls/families etc. Also plenty of bits and pieces to keep the kids occupied ie bouncy castle/go karts. there is also a beer tent and BBQ. Course wise, it is challenging. It is described as multi terrain but is probably better described as a cross country race. It is flat but very pot-holey and uneven. Not a PB course but a refreshing change from road racing. The only negative points are that the marshalls (mainly cadets) could have been better positioned and more supportive, as could the one water station (just over 3K). Also the Km markers were quite a bit under with the finishing line somehow ending up at 10.07Km. This is only minor constructive criticism of an otherwise good race. The medals and trophies were very good (better than at most races). It is obvious to see the organizers have put the effort in. Will definately do this one again next year. Well done Fen Drayton! In short: Best 10K ever! In full: I was recommended this race by a fellow club member and I have to say what a sound recommendation it was. This is a BIG race, with over 1400 runners. It has excellent support as its through the town centre and is very well organised. Good marshalls/water stations etc.Course wise it is flat/fast but fine for both begginers and speed merchants alike. When entering I thought the entry fee was a bit steep but to be fair it was worth it and was a great day out. All 19 members o our club that took part said they would do it next year! In short: Back again next year! In full: Once again this was a very well organised race (must be good as done it 3 times and traveled all the way from Peterborough!). This years course slightly different as now you don't go through park which now makes it faster and more PBable. The bloke on the mic at the start/finish is a legendary as ever. Only downside was the heat (can't be helped) and as a result could have done with more water stations. Marshalls/support were fantastic! Date of review: May 4, 2011

In short: WELL ORGANISED, FRIENDLY, PB-able BRILLIANT!!! In full: This is a fantastic race that is very well organised. The main man is a chap called Maurice who was very accomodating in arranging a place for me in a race that was very nearly full. This is a 3 lap course, but don't be put off. It is as flat as a pancake and is definately a PB course. With almost 400 runners the atmosphere is great. The only downside is a lot of the runners towards the back run 4-5 abrest on a narrow paths which some people find annoying. This race is also chip timed, so very accurate. The shower/changing facilities are the best I have ever seen at a race, and there is also a small decent cafe there for refreshments. This race is also ideal for combining with a day out in London. In short: TOUGH RACE!!! In full: This was the first time I have run this race. I was impressed with the organisation, including the stalls, the group warm up for the novice runners and the goody bag which is one of the best I have had. It includes a decent t-shirt, sweatband, cereal bar, pen and £5 Sweatshop voucher. Value for money is good at this race. Now onto the couse.... This is described as undulating but should really be classified as hilly. There is little chance of a PB, also due to the fact it is in June it is baking hot. On this point the only real negative is the water stations. There are two one at 5K and one 600 metres from the end. No logic! Why not have them staggered better at 4 and 7. Most marhslls were encourgaing, which is a postive. Other than that this is worth doing. Date of review: June 28, 2010

In short: Definate PB Potential. Nice Course!! In full: Bearing in mind this race is organised by a Rotary Club and not a running club they did really well. The course is a good mix of terrain (Flat/slightly undulating), but definatly PB material. Great turn out. Will be many more next year i'm sure. The only downsides were as the last person mentioned, no water at the end and also the results. I know they had an IT issue, but I have been reliably informed the results will be rectified soon. Despite only doing this race once, I can honestly say it is now a favourite! Date of review: June 22, 2010

In short: Good Race but poor results service In full: This is a good flatish scenic course with definate PB potential. A good turn out and includes free entry into the zoo, so ideal for all the family. The only downside is that Dunstable Runners messed up with my father's running number and sent him a number for the fun run but this was rectified on the day with no problems. However when he finished the 10K he was not shown as having an official time. Several e-mails were sent to different people to get this sorted out but no one could be bothered or couteous enough to reply. Not impressed with this! However would still do race again as many positives. Date of review: June 19, 2010

In short: Great race. Naff medal!! In full: The 10k race is well organised. Marshalling was good and the course was scenic and more importantly flat. Definatly PB potential. Water stations also frequent, which is good. Nice little HQ with decent cake/drinks stall. The only real downside is that the medal was pure rubbish. This one went straight into the drawer. They must be able to do something better. They weren't even all the same. Some had string on and some had bad quality tape. Despite this would definatly do again. Date of review: May 2, 2010

In full: Fantastic race that starts in Hythe and goes to Folkestone and back. Very well organised. Very flat apart from one short steep climb in park just before 5 miles. Marshalls are excellent and gave great support. Potential to be very windy as right on the sea front. Definately a PB course. The Folkestone Half Marathon beleived organised by the same people is worth the visit aswell. Date of review: April 2, 2010
