In short: My new Personal Worst half marathon time In full: I slipped, and sprained my ankle, on the first slippy downhill section. I didn't want to pull out so near the start, so I plodded on, thinking "I'll see how I feel at the next water stop". I seemed to be going backwards compared to everyone else, but I (eventually!) made it all the way around. I wouldn't have made it without all the support from fellow runners and the marvellous marshalls. My ankle is the size of an orange, and my whole foot has turned some unbelieveable colours, but I'll be healed in time for the Picnic.... Date of review: March 20, 2012
In short: The perfect New Year's Hangover buster In full: Rob, you did it again! Many thanks for a fantastic day, although it's now Tuesday and my legs are a bit sore. Fantastic organisation as usual, with friendly marshals steering us around the hard course. Some of it was very muddy, but that was just a good excuse to use my Christmas XC shoes. Not many people can say that they spent New Year's Day chasing a Dalek and a French Maid up a hill... Date of review: January 3, 2012
In short: Must be the only half-marathon with Morris Dancing and free beer. In full: A beautiful course with marvellous views and the usual encouragement from the trionium marshals. Brilliant facilities at the start, the weighing-in scales were an interesting touch. The extra loop at the bottom of the hill added a few minutes, but no harm done. Overall, it was a beautiful course and the views off the top made all the climbing worthwhile. Off-road shoes are a must for next time though, some of the paths were very slippy. In short: What? Another lap? In full: Dr Robert, you keep organising these horrible things, and I keep entering them. As always, very hard work. the submerged stepping stones and the extra slippy approach to the turnaround point make things even more interesting. I'm in agony today, but I know I'll be back for more in two years. See you in Bath for the Hilly Half! Date of review: June 20, 2011
In short: Tough but Rewarding In full: Doctor Rob, you did it yet again! Fantastic organisation, horrible hills made bearable by enthusiastic marshalls a very friendly field of runners. A swim and a fry-up afterwards, what's not to like? My knee hurts now, but I'll be back for the Picnic. Date of review: March 7, 2011
In short: Dr Rob develops ultimate hangover cure! In full: Maybe a whole bottle of wine the night before was a mistake, but there's nothing like a nice fry-up to put things straight. The fry-up comes after a friendly sing-along and a relaxing amble over some gently rolling countryside, just the ticket! The head is very clear now, but my legs are a bit sore. Now I only have to do the Knacker Cracker to complete the T-shirt collection...
In short: Argh! My Legs! In full: Horrible steps, wonderful views, friendly crowd and excellent marshalls. Four days later and I can walk again. I'll be back next year, I've already booked for The Picnic. A proper picnic at the end, smoked salmon sandwiches and everything, and the pub is on the way to the station. What a wonderful way to spend a summer afternoon. Thanks Dr Rob, I'll definitely be back. Date of review: June 23, 2010
