In short: Very different race to normal - very glad I took part! In full: Definitely an enjoyable run! Could have done with an extra water station in the middle section (or at least a warning that there would only be Lucozade for the next 5 miles on a hot day) as I'd have kept my water bottle from mile 3 a lot longer, but aside from that gripe it was a really good race! Particularly appreciated all the lone supporters out in the middle of the course, often with their very enthusiastic children, who were doing a fabulous job encouraging us all. That last mile against the wind was a killer - never realised Silverstone had hills! Date of review: March 15, 2010

In short: Very well organised and friendly race - loved it! In full: Thank goodness the weather held out to make a great race! Very enjoyable, very friendly people and an interesting goody bag for sure! Loved all the Mos. If only I'd felt better (just recovering from a virus) as it would have been a PB for sure with this route.. well, if I survived the big hills!
Thank you to everyone involved. I did the Epsom 5K too (same organisers) and these people know how to lay on a good race :-) Date of review: November 14, 2009

In short: Great race, well organised! In full: There were so many good points about this race it is far quicker to list the two tiny, tiny niggles! One was that a lot of time was lost when we were forced to walk for some way when queueing for the steps for the bridge, and the other was that they ran out of goody bags by the time I finished, and I wasn't *that* near to the back!!
Aside from that, it was a great race in beautiful surroundings with some tough hills! Nice most of the final part was downhill as well. Appreciated the water stations too.
Definitely *not* a fun-run style race (the finish times speak for that) but it was welcoming to those not affiliated with clubs too.
Great race, thank you PWR for a great morning out! Date of review: October 11, 2009

In short: Excellent race! Highly recommended. In full: This was only my third ever race, but what a difference to the previous two I ran! It was exceptionally well organised, in beautiful surroundings. No chance of getting lost, and the marshalls were very supportive.
The weather was great (even too hot at times, can't blame the organisers for that!) which just added to the appeal. Everyone was very friendly, and there was a great mix of all types of ability. And the race was exactly 5K as well which always helps, I find ;-) It was excellent to see the results so soon after finishing too!
Highly recommended if anyone is considering this race next year. Date of review: October 4, 2009

2009 London Peace Run 5K
 | | Overall score | | 60% | | Would you do it again? | | Maybe | | | | Details: | | Scenery | | 80% | | PB potential | | 40% | | Atmosphere | | 80% | | Organisation | | 60% | | Value | | 100% | | Beginner-friendliness | | 60% |
In short: Very friendly, but conditions did not favour PBs! In full: Very friendly race, nice and small. Only downside was as it was being run on public, unclosed-off areas, there was a fair bit of pedestrian dodging at times. The worst bit was wading through the tourists on the South Bank, and getting sarky comments from a few other passers-by unconnected with the race, but that's no different from a normal training run ;-) Lots of people were very supportive though, and the marshalls were great and friendly!
The stairs were a killer and it was a hard push coming up the subway stairs and the final hill. And there was one point where it was not signposted and there was no marshall and I ran the wrong way and lost 20 seconds before I realised. Mostly though it was well signed.
My Garmin put it at 3.48 miles which is probably not true due to the high buildings messing with it, but nevertheless I was very disappointed with my time (1:45 off my PB) as I thought and felt I'd run my fastest 5K ever despite the obstacles - which makes me think it was possibly longer than 5K. There was a last minute adjustment of the course so maybe it wasn't quite right.
Lovely medal though, and a great atmosphere! Nice drinks at the end too! Date of review: September 26, 2009

In short: Good atmosphere, but not a course for PBs In full: Mostly well organised, and a great atmosphere, but definitely a fun run rather than a race.
It was very strict in the programme about where you should be lining up based on expected finish time, but it seems most people didn't read the programme and there wasn't anything to really re-enforce the importance at the start. I was in the 25-30 minute wave and was passing walkers by 100 yards, and didn't get free of people going woefully slow and/or walking until the 2 mile mark. Very, very frustrating!
It was super crowded too but this would not have been so bad if the crowds had been going at any reasonable pace.
On the plus side, the goody bag was good albeit bizarre in places (cranberry *sauce*, Cif, lipstick - were we supposed to go home, put on some lippy, clean the kitchen and cook dinner?!) and the facilities (Adidas had a good footscan thing) were top notch. More of a day out than a race though! Date of review: September 24, 2009
