In short: Well done, Hastings. Just as good as ever. In full: As ever, all good. Atmosphere, crowds, course, water stations, bagpipers, hot teas, staff and so on. A happy day. Date of review: March 26, 2015
In short: A tough but great race. Well worth doing. In full: Lovely countryside. Well organised and supported. Good parking and bag storage. A very challenging run but worth doing. Date of review: May 27, 2014
In short: It just keeps getting better! In full: The 30th Hastings Half and the route was lined pretty much all the way and peppered with people handing out orange pieces, sweets and lots of support. The organisation is great and the Hastings brass is always a unique reminder of this great race. Lots of sweet tea available at the end. Well done to all who make this happen. Can't wait for next year. Date of review: March 25, 2014
In short: A tough course. Very well organised. In full: A tough course. Very well organised. Signs everywhere to help navigate around the school, etc, which was very helpful. Well attended race. Date of review: December 3, 2013
In short: A quick course In full: A well organised race. It's a fast, flat course. Great if the wind isn't catching your side. Always a nice atmosphere here. Plenty of places to get a nice meal afterwards. Date of review: August 29, 2013
In short: A good challenge In full: I was told that this was a really tough race, but the hills, though long, are not particularly steep. It's a challenging course but a good one. I managed to enjoy it despite the prior concerns of others. Date of review: July 10, 2013
In short: As ever, a great race... In full: As ever, excellent organisation and a great atmosphere. Despite the very cold March weather (barely 1°C), the good people of Hastings came out in their droves and once again made this the great half marathon that it is. Well done to all those involved in its organisation. (Always good to hear the drum and bagpipes at the start.) Date of review: March 26, 2013
In short: Not Good. In full: Where in the pack did it mention a chip and from where it should be collected? If it did, I didn't see it, or receive that information. Where was the free t-shirt mentioned on this site? Where was the free beanie hat mentioned in the pack? Why were people not handing these out at the end? Why was nothing, other than the course, signed? Most of the marshalls might as well have not been there as they were both cheerless and unable to answer questions. As you can see from my other race reviews, I am very easy to please when it comes to races. But this was far too messy in terms of organisation.
At least the BHF got my money.
A word of advice to the BHF. Don't waste your charity's money on posting pointless glossy leaflets, and perhaps instead invest it in signs, or at the very least, CLEAR pre-race instructions.
It's a nice place to run and for a good cause so I wouldn't rule out running it again, but would I know what to expect. Perhaps post lace chips out in the pack. Date of review: March 24, 2013
