In short: A BIG CITY RACE SO EXPECT CROWDS, HIGH PRICES AND NO PB! In full: I have done all the Brum Halfs and until Great Run stepped in, last year's farce was going to be my last. A transformation - excellent organisation and no quibbles. Some comments from others: Cost? This was average for big city races; if you want value do a club race. Haile may have been kind about Brum but money no is beauty brought him here. Picturesque? This is Brum; there is no picturesque route! Hills? If the race is to start and finish at or near Broad St the laws of physics make a hill at the beginning and the end unavoidable.
I loved it. No PB but 1:31 is OK for a 48 year old! Date of review: October 29, 2011
In short: LOVE THIS RACE In full: I probably love it too much! Shouldn't have run after 2 days off ill with food poisoning but this race is so special. This year as well organised and marshalled as ever. I shall be back. Date of review: July 4, 2011
In short: FUN ... BUT EXPENSIVE In full: A well organised race. In truth 4 or 5 races as it consists of well-separated echelons of runners; the runners in my wave - the first - would have been back on the M5 before the last wave started. Well packed trails and gentle hills. Certainly not XC as I saw it referred to in a forum post. Most ran in normal road shoes. Is this slick commercial approach the way ahead? Certainly for beginners or occasional competitors but in the future, I may save my money and race at local club events. Date of review: May 22, 2011
In short: AN EXAMPLE OF HOW TO ORGANISE A RACE . . .but In full: it is not truly the organisers' fault but can runners be encouraged to respect the predicted time pens? Date of review: September 12, 2010
In short: LOVELY, FRIENDLY RACE . . . WITH HILLS! In full: Certainly not a road race and not quite a fell race. A good XC race probably captures it. No PBs on this course but great fun on a Summer evening. Date of review: August 21, 2010
In short: LOVELY COURSE: POORLY ORGANISED In full: The organisers may not like this reality but races such as this are a product and in this case an expensive one. They must deliver. It is cheap to not offer water in bottles and the rationale for no isotonic drinks was risible. Runners want PBs so help them by penning runners at the start. The slowest had all pushed to the front. Date of review: April 26, 2010
In short: POOR TURNOUT FOR A FAST, FUN COURSE In full: Sad about the poor turn-out; what did it clash with? Was it too early? It is certainly a fast course; I was very happy with under 20 mins. Hopefully more participants next year. Perhaps next year the organisers can remove the large dog mess at the 100m point! All for charity so no losers! http://www.justgiving.com/MaxSnowdonRace
