In short: Hard as nails In full: I think the organisers heard our complaints about the 2010 Hell Up North being a little on the short side. This was comapartively much tougher. Less singletrack but nine million hills. It is designed to kill you through a combination of lactic acid inducing climbs, mud and cold water. On the up side, if you survive you will laugh lauagh laugh. Please can we have some nicer technical T-Shirts and I think I deserved a medal for that. Date of review: February 14, 2011

In short: Mud glorious mud In full: Some proper steep hills! The mud was muddy as hell and left you in no doubt that this was a trail race. Myself and at least 6 others managed to go off piste somehow on the final stretch. Don't want to criticise the marshalls as I think they were assisting an emergency but could generally have been been better marked. Was proper difficult hunting down the sticky toffee pudding at the end. Was a taste sensation btw!!! Date of review: March 22, 2010

In short: Lovely day and a very pleasant race In full: My first event of the year and has got me in the mood for more. Enjoyed it - great weather and seemingly well organised. Only saw 3 markers at 3, 5 and 6 miles. Would have been good to have had a few more.
There were some moderate hills to contend with but nothing too bad. Rural and pretty much traffic free. Date of review: March 8, 2010

In short: A real test of toughness! Brilliant fun. In full: Much tougher than I could possibly have imagined. Felt cosy in the knowledge that I know my way around Delamere... Nothing could have prepared me for this though. Went well off the beaten track, most of it I've never ventured on mountain bike let alone foot. Only gripe is the t-shirt which was tent-like for a small and ought to have been 'technical' with Puma behind it. Date of review: November 2, 2009

In short: Really enjoyable if tough race! In full: My first official 1/2 of any type. There were far more hills than I'm accustomed to so it was pretty painful... this of course just adds to the sense of achievement and will hopefully make a conventional 1/2 seem a little easier. Hopefully good prep for Hellrunner too!? Definitely earnt my (very nice) T-shirt. I still like medals but hey, very generous. Date of review: September 21, 2009
