In short: My favourite race of the year! In full: The marshals were fantastic, the support was great and they even provided some uplifting music at a vital point of the race to keep you going. I have to also say that the goody bag was top notch and the trophies looked fantastic again. Date of review: January 30, 2011
In short: Poor organisation ruined this race In full: What was the start all about? Issuing a four min warning and then just starting the race two mins later without any warning. Then 15 secs later the hooter goes when it was clearly too late.
This race was very difficult to get to by car or on foot due to the narrow road entrance. The car park was a farmers field full of cow pats and muddy - so not a race to take the family to.
The memento was nothing more than a bag and even that was given out begrudgingly.
On the plus side, this was an attractive course and the marshals were friendly. A little hilly in places but not too bad. The wind played its part, but the course was fiarly sheltered.
There is not many races I would cross of my list but unfortunately this is one of them. :-( Date of review: November 23, 2009
In short: What a great experience In full: I have to say that in my five years of racing this was one of the most enjoyable and well run races I have ever completed. Now, I really didn;t think I would be saying that when I drew back the curtains and looked out at the snow filled skies and bitterly cold and strong wind thatt was lowing in from the East.
I believe this was the first year of this race and based on my experience it is going to have a great future. The orginasation was exceptional. The marshals, despite the conditions, were some of the friendliest and encouraging I have ever experienced.
The course itself was attractive, although very open, so the conditions were pretty touch going. however, this race attracted over 200 runners on one of the worst weather conditions we will experience this year, and if the beaming smiles at the end were anything to go by, they will all be coming back next year. In short: Good course, let down by poor organisation In full: A really good course, scenic and challenging, was let down by a few small but still irritating problems. These being:
- no showers (the literature said limited, but none of the organisers knew where they were!) - pricey admission - not the best marshalling, which led to the leaders running into problems where they merged with the back markers at a cross over point and people wondering on the course and colliding with runners - quite expensive, even though it was for charity this race is an expensive 10k - champion chip system, which claims it will give you an accurate time seemed excellent, but then they only had a map at the end which defeated the object. Also usually they mean results are communicated quickly, but to date nothing has appeared on the web site.
Such a shame as this race has great potential. Cardiff by the way is a very beautiful city and the locally brewed Brains beer was surprisingly good!
In short: If this is a 6 mile race then I just qualified for the GB team! In full: This is not, and should not be, billed as a race, more a fun run. It is not 6 miles, more like 5 and a bit. I came third last year and if it really was 6 miles then I would be in the GB team and the winner would be olympic champion! No distance markers or prizes. I felt it was expensive for what it was and had clearly been organised to raise some money for the organisers. Date of review: April 10, 2005
