In short: Poor organisation at the start, too narrow at the finish In full: I was looking forward to this to get a new PB - which I did so was pleased.
However at the start they were saying on the tannoy to get into the right timing slow but the bands for this were too small, and it was very hard to get through the barriers to start. It needed a good 100m for each 5 minute time band. If these were then printed on the numbers and checked it would have improved the situation.
I started at sub55 (finished in 52:30) and was overtaking people for at least 4km.
The water station at 5km would have been better if on both sides of the road so it would have been less congested, the briefing notes said there would be nectar energy gels as well but I didn't see any.
At the end after the sliproad the course narrowed to 1 lane with traffic in the left hand lane. When I came through (just under 1h from the gun) it was very busy with lots of jostling for position and no space for a sprint finish.
A good course that has maybe got a bit too popular and they have allowed too many applicants. Date of review: November 21, 2012

In short: Lots of tight turns in the first few k's In full: Often described as a hilly race I was expecting a much steeper course, thankfully the hills were long and gradual rather than short and steep.
The first 2-3 km and the last km round the city centre had lots of fairly tight corners which made the congestion feel worse. But did give spectators plenty of space to watch which was nice.
Enjoyed the race if a little busy. Date of review: July 15, 2012

2011 Puma Pudsey 10k
 | | Overall score | | 100% | | Would you do it again? | | Yes | | | | Details: | | Scenery | | 80% | | PB potential | | 40% | | Atmosphere | | 80% | | Organisation | | 80% | | Value | | 100% | | Beginner-friendliness | | 60% |
In short: Varied, steep and enjoyable In full: I now understand why it is called the 'Pudsey 10k challenge' not the 'Pudsey 10k run' and it is just that, a hilly challenge, the downhills are mostly too steep and uneven to get up much speed so this doesn't compensate for my slowness up the hills!
It was nice getting off the roads in the sunshine for some of the run. A very friendly event where you have enough space for pretty much all the route and can start running from within a few yards of the start line.
My 3 year old also did the family fun run which made it a nice family day out. Date of review: July 25, 2011
