In short: Highly recommended In full: I really enjoyed this one. It's a very well organised, small, friendly race. Like all small marathons (this had 217 people running I think) it gets quite spread out so if you need people around you to keep you going then you might struggle at this one. There seemed to be a few ad hoc groups forming through the race though so that could help. Water stops were plentiful and well spaced. Personally, I had no problem with the A20 section it was a good contrast with the country lanes we had run along beforehand. And I think it is quite a fast course. There is only one nasty hill and that is at 3 miles where you've still got the energy to take it in your stride. The others are easier and most of the ascent is done in the first half which is helpful. The lack of crowding means definite PB potential if you don't mind a little bit of climbing. And as others have said the HQ is brilliant. Plenty of parking, loos, showers. I'd thoroughly recommend this race. Date of review: November 19, 2013
In short: Excellent race In full: 2nd time for me. Lap format is very helpful when going for a specific time as you know exactly what is coming by the time you get to the third lap.
It's a well designed route with good variety. Some country lanes, a bit of dual carrriageway (with a path), some industrial areas, a housing estate and a couple of parks. And the undulations also add interest - nothing so steep to really slow you down but enough to keep it interesting.
And organisation and marshalling is first class. Thanks very much indeed. Date of review: November 20, 2012
In short: Very well organised and super fast course In full: I was worried that the faffing about to get buses to the start would be annoying but it wasn't - like everything about the day is was very efficiently organised and ran like clockwork.
Water stations were frequent - every 3 miles or so - which was great.
The first 10 miles are basically downhill (net 1,000 feet or so) which gives this real PB potential.
And the t-shirt is really nice. Date of review: October 1, 2012
In short: A brilliant race In full: This is one of my favourites. A great course, mainly off road with lots of variation of surface, incline and view. Very well organised indeed - starts on time, plenty of marshalls and all very friendly. And it all starts and finishes in the very picturesque Shardeloes cricket club.
All the races that Chiltern Harriers put on are excellent but this is the best in my view. Date of review: September 24, 2012
In short: Very well run race on an excellent course with perfect weather In full: The organisation at Tadley is always very good. Low key but well managed.
It's an excellent course - flat for a mile, down hill for a mile, 3 miles of occassional undulation and then a sharp climb at 8k just to take away any complacency as the finish approaches.
What made it extra enjoyable this year was the weather. It was warm enough but a bit of breeze and even a bit of drizzle the hills at the end seemed much much easier than last year. Date of review: July 2, 2012
In short: Nobody does it better In full: This is a great race - scenery, organisation, marshalling, atmosphere, course, positioning of water stops, t shirt, entry fee.....all perfect. It's my favourite. Date of review: October 10, 2011
In short: Excellent race In full: Yes, it's a bit chaotic at the start but that's part of the charm of this race. It's one of my favourites - good scenery, good mix of people and I like the 10 mile distance. Thanks very much to the organisers and all the marshalls for their unstinting encouragement. In short: My favourite race In full: It really is a top race this. It's a great course with plenty of challenges and the scenery is fantastic. The organisation and marshalling are second to none and the race attracts runners of all ages and speed so everyone would feel welcome here. 10/10/10 10:10 t shirt is great too and a nice fit!
