In short: A mixed bag - a few problems to iron out. In full: I meant to do this one last year but missed out due to injury - just as well given the poor reviews it got. However, the organisers kindly deferred me to this year's race. Not bad overall but some things could have been better: Number got wet and disintegrated. Didn't like the start mixed in with cars in the street. The 10k/HM split could have been clearer although there were marshals there - just a couple of big clear signs would have helped. More mile markers please.
Ironing out these issues will ensure more runners come back. On the positive: Nice medal and tech shirt; bananas and water at finish; results detailed and posted quickly. Date of review: May 27, 2014
In short: Not one for a PB In full: Not one to get a 10k PB at. Fast first half then relentless climbs most of second half. Good atmosphere and mix of runners but a bit chaotic at start as no "phasing" between slower runners/walkers and faster runners. A couple of omissions regarding signposting (fork at about 6k so spent 30 second discussing with other runners which way to go!) - otherwise good event. BTW - get there early as parking gets full v. quickly. No results posted to my knowledge. Date of review: March 16, 2014
In short: Tough one - but well worth doing. In full: Following the wettest January in a hundred years, this was never going to be one for a PB. The combination of the energy-sapping mud, some unforgiving hills and having to negotiate stiles/gates makes this one one to do for the experience. Very friendly organisation and the parts of the course where runners had to queue to go through gates etc. gave us an opportunity to chat! Course is actually measured at 10.3m. In short: Weather made this tougher this year! In full: A good idea to do races like this for a change from flat road races. Very reasonable entry fee. Support was excellent considering the appaling weather (was good all day except when the race was on!), support also from walkers and local people on the hill much appreciated. Not one for PB's really (I was 3 mins slower than last year) but a good challenge and nice for anyone just to finish really. Date of review: October 15, 2012
In short: My first one - glad I did it. In full: This was my first ever marathon. Weather was ideal. The course is through lovely rural areas around Worcester. Enough water/sports drink stations but could have done with one at about 17/18 miles (none between 14 and 20.5 miles). Entry to the starting site at the Six Ways rugby ground was a bit chaotic (one guy collecting £3 for parking caused tail-backs onto roundabout by M5 junction so organisers will have to sort this out for next year; the start was delayed by 15 mins). Excellent encouragement by marshals and local villagers throughout. Would do this again to support my local marathon race and St. Richards Hospice also benefits. Date of review: April 15, 2012
In short: First HM - would do this on again. In full: Most reviews have pretty summed this one up. Great organisation and friendly atmosphere. Wind did me in in last couple of miles though but that is Malvern for you! Date of review: June 1, 2011
In short: My first 10k race - very good experience. In full: I would have to concur with the previous members commenting on this race. Although the weather was not great, there was a fantastic atmosphere with 900 runners and also friends/family in support and for a good cause. The route was in the main not too challenging (I went faster over this distance than ever I think) around the docks and cathedral in the city. Also - very heavily marshalled and well organised.
