In short: Made the Leith Hill Half (the only other hill race I've done) seem like a walk in the park! In full: I asked for a sunny day and the organisers obliged - it was a glorious day with a wonderfully encouraging atmosphere. As a relative novice (my 2nd marathon) I suggested to my race compatriots that we were all lunatics to be be running for 26.2 miles up and down hill to cries of protestation. One declared as we embarked on the 7th or 8th major climb (I forget which) that he hated going uphill as much as he hated going downhill, and when I asked why he was doing the 4th hilliest marathon in Britain he said "if it doesnt kill you it makes you stronger" and then revealed he'd just run 100 miles along the Ridgeway non-stop ... QED. Loonies all. But happy ones. Some achey (including me). Date of review: October 18, 2010
