In short: A windmill well worth it!
In full: Very well organised.Fantastic atmosphere. One of the best medals for a 10k and all at a bargain price(these days)As mentioned by others- Yes!The start could have been wider and chip timing(next year apparently)will certainly improve things but other than that the event as a whole was borderline perfect.A little windy in places must have added a few seconds on ;0 The temptation to go on the b of the bang down the first straight section and burn myself out by mile 3 got the better of me - And I wasnt overly keen on the tight turn at the finish but these things can be forgiven when the rest was as good as it was.Great work team! Looking forward to next year already.

In short: Getting there!
In full: This is my 2nd year attending this race.First off,I much prefered last years course layout and start on the fields. It made for a much more relaxed atmosphere instead of the post apocalyptic scenery of the salt mine. Not many places to relax or sit back before the chilly start. The rotten weather exacerbated this new start location. The course is another one of those that can easily ruin your road shoes unless they are made of sturdy stuff.Trail shoes would probably work best despite the bits of road included..Although the instructions sent out beforehand clearly stated that Tshirts could be collected before the race, I had to argue the toss with one of the staff to get mine. This saved waiting around in next to nothing after the race.So why state this in the first place?
My Garmin said the distance was almost a 10th of a mile longer than 10k. This needs sorting for next year.Serious runners know exactly what time difference this can make..The goody bag was pretty good.T Shirt quality was great but far too small for a size Large..Atmosphere, generally very good with friendly chatty runners all looking forward to the event.Marshals were encouraging. The results didnt take long to be published and thats a plus these days...I do not know If I'll do this again but with a bit of work it can become better.Queues! Well enough has been said about those already...7/10

In short: Dw Does it again !
In full: I have done this race before and wanted to see if it was still as professionally run as my previous experience. It was indeed! Everyone seemed to know what they were doing and(although the 'surname' queuing system could be improved)waited a while in standing in the chilly beach breeze to get my number. Marshals were on the whole encouraging. A few just stood there expressionless though. Great atmosphere and compare. Goody bag is about as good as it gets at 10k races these days nice medal, tshirt and energy foods. My Garmin said 6.24 miles which felt tough as it meant I missed my PB by a few seconds. This slightly longer distance could also easily be rectified on the last stretch for next year. The changes in terrain make choice of footwear difficult for this one but I supposed beach running adds to the fun. Runners happily mingled and chatted before and after the event making it all very relaxed and friendly. My only real gripe was with the security gate man who got snotty about my exit pass from the carpark. It WAS verified by the DW shop and yet they refused to accept this but did begrudgingly open the barrier in the end. The staff at the DW shop were super friendly and organised with the goody bags too. A BIG well done to the organisers. You have much to be proud of. Keep up the good work..

In short: Great staff but nothing special
In full: I have done this 10k a couple of time now.It is a worthy cause and I am more than happy to let my entry fee go to Diabetes collections.So!...The staff and marshals were brilliant and sooo friendly..BIG Well done to all concerned for that. The course is nice and scenic(more than its fair share of dogs though and not all on leads)Couldn't detect a clubby/clique feel about the event (always good)..Plenty of free water supplied (also always good to see) More entrants would have definitely bumped up the lack lustre wet evening atmosphere I suppose. And a tshirt that didn't have a giant advert for taxis on its back would be put to better use than that given in the goody bag.An online certificate with your time and name pre-printed would also be better than the cheap paper thing supplied for you to fill in yourself. The fact is-there are LOADS of 10k races out there for runners to choose from now.Running is more popular than ever and like it or not they will have to compete to get our hard earned entry fees.I have to say that getting the results has been the slowest I have encountered.I wish it well though and with a few tweaks here and there this could be one to consider again.

In short: A bit of a let down
In full: So we could run with Olympians and also get a medal for our efforts? Not quite! The Olympians did little more than a lap of the track and the advertised medals-were only for those who had completed a series of races. The route was fine and marshals all friendly and encouraging enough. The congestion of so many runners caused tripping and heel catching at the start on the track though.Others may disagree but I found the atmosphere to be much more 'clubby' and serious than others 10ks.The goody bag was positively full of rubbish but I liked the free energy gels at the beginning.Overall ,an OK race.Well organised ample parking and toilets but not worth the journey and goody bag could have been better.Nothing to make this one stand out from the others.

In short: Amateurish
In full: Ok - where do I start- not enough pins at the start for race numbers.Kids falling onto the track right at the start - in front of runners.Loads of dog dirt along the route and marshal's who sent runners into traffic because they obviously didn't know what they were doing...Atmosphere though was great (despite the awful weather) and good extra events at the start e.g. dancing, DJ even the Mayor attended.BUT must try harder Bolton Legacy 5k if you want to encourage keen runners back.3/10

In short: Another race for others to match
In full: From the very start at the track you could feel this was a well organised event.Great scenery, fantastic, encouraging marshals(all the way around) and a non clubby friendly atmosphere - made for a race that stood out amongst the MANY others. There were a few sharp turns and steps to contend with I have to say. Also my Garmin reg the distance as 6.32ml NOT 6.1 So not ideal for PBs - And a medal instead of yet ANOTHER tshirt for the 10k would have been preferential( it wasnt the cheapest of 10ks around to choose from - but otherwise very nearly top marks for Pennington Flash 10k. :O) 8.5/10

In short: Fantastic Organisation
In full: Only decided to do this run at the very last minute. How glad I was I did.Great weather, fantastic friendly atmosphere with an amusing information and interesting DJ as well. His enthusiasm for the event was admirable. The grassy route was a little overgrown though and was almost worthy of trail shoes-but apart from this scenery was good.No long queues to sign up and helpful staff and marshals for the whole event.Nice to have the option to start at the front and chase those PB's...But Slightly short of 5k ensured many new PB's I bet...Very nice medal at the end instead of a bag full of unwanted flyers.Well done all at Warrington Legacy 5k.Excellent running event...I shall return.

In short: A superb half marathon
In full: My first half marathon, after concentrating mainly on 10k events for the last couple of years but a thoroughly enjoyable one.The chance to run without pressures of times/pbs etc was a great feeling indeed. The looped scenic course made the distance feel like less(which was no bad thing)Organisation was excellent.Massive queues for toilets but not a lot they could do about that I suppose.I had expected free parking but luckily had a few pounds in the car for the £3.20 pay and display..Mementos-Id rather have the offered wagon wheel and a medal any day than a bag full of flyers.Nice medal too.The general feeling was of friendly fellow runners happily chatting to each other and out to enjoy the event.I didnt feel any of the clubby atmosphere that some races have become all too accustomed to.Marshals were encouraging and water was plentiful around the course. Some -bonus-great sea views on route which helped me forget the particularly strong wind. Thanks to all concerned and a BIG well done to the organisers.

In short: Better and better
In full: I have to admit, although I loved this race first time around I wasnt that impressed with absolutely everything..This year however was superb and almost faultless..A slightly delayed start did nothing to distract from the magnificent atmosphere and overall organisation by the Mad Dog team.Their tremendous efforts at creating and hopefully maintaining the 'best 10k of the year' accolade, was clearly on display.Marshals were friendly, goody bags totally brilliant and the unique medal is a joy to have earned.A wider finish/start and possibly a delayed start for sub 50 runners would be the icing on the cake. The straight stretch near the sea front acts as a good warm up for the remaining twisty turns around Southport.A MASSIVE well done to Adrian and his team. How a 10k should be done.Other organisers take note! Mad Dog 10k - Highly recommended.10/10
