In short: Very Hard but Enjoyable! In full: Hard as nails course and not one for a first time marathon runner, great support and plenty water stations but they offer little else. Love the course and very cheap to run compared to other marathons. They dont call it toughest road marathon in the world for nothing! Date of review: September 29, 2011

In short: Great Day, Great Organisation! Very Very Enjoyable! In full: I survived Hell! It cost a bit to enter but you get free parking, fantastic medal, bottled water, very generous goodie bag and a Hell runner tee along with meeting the devil himself. Fantastic course (around 11 mile) and loved the bog of doom+ the bog disco and hills of hell! Very very enjoyable day, the only thing stopping me going back for more is the risk of injury! Would go back just as a spectator to watch the runners go through the bog which is located near the finish, plenty to do for the family as well A+++++. Date of review: September 12, 2011

In short: Good Organised Race Around Nice Private Grounds In full: A great ultra for the beginer as it is 7 or 10 laps of a 10mile route, has flat bits with a few little hills but nothing to major. The good thing is you get a bag drop and every 10 miles you have access to your kit, you only really need to carry drink. Very supportive and well organised event and possibly do it again. In short: Great Day-A Race Out of the Norm and a must! In full: A great day and everything went like clockwork which was surprising for a run that on paper seems extraordinary hard to organise i.e. across the bay whilst the tide is out and start 1 hour away from finish (the organisers put free coaches on for you). Loved running through the water in parts and the beach was wet and hard so not difficult to run on. Not organised but topped my day off at the 8 mile mark getting a flying display by a spitfire/hurricane and Lancaster bomber, enjoyed the parachutes at the start as well! Great event and a must for all you runners out there!!!! Plenty of drink stations out to sea and goody bag, medal and pick of fruit at the end, I would say its good value for money. In short: Hard but A FANTASTIC ONE, a real gem! In full: Great organisation (Yes you where told to run with 2 ltrs of water) Marshalls willing you on all the way, very tough under foot with hills galore. A waist height river crossing and beautiful stunning scenery. What more could trail runners ask for? They also put on a slow race for walkers/runners but bare in mind this is no flat tarmac run around a city with endless amounts of water stations so would advise you are experienced in this sort of distance and carrying a day sack. Great weather and loads to do for the family whilst you are running (climbing wall, face painting, ice cream, pita sandwich shops, coffee man, bouncy castles) and loads of room on the fields to relax and do some sunbathing.
Well done to everyone involved a real gem of a marathon!

In short: Great Scenery!Well marked Trail, No Major Hills, Little over priced, No Atmosphere but could build into a little gem! In full: First time this was held I believe, seem to be a bit of a disappointing turn out for them so the runners where well space out which is not a bad thing! Fantastic scenery and very well marked out trial a real credit to the organisers (my GPS sais it was 11.5miles though, could be my GPS playing up), good brief at the start and a great course, lots of countryside to admire as you run along and hardly any tarmac in sight! Unsure if some of the marshals really wanted to be there with only one showing any encouragements toward you, a little disappointed that for my £25 entry fee I received a Bandana and energy bar at the end, I loved the energy bar but will 90% of the runners ever wear a bandana? I wont! Maybe if the organisers gave you a nice printed running shirt then this would promote the race and more turn up next year? Water stations had cups of water but first one was closed when we ran past?? not that I would have needed one but just a point. One disappointing thing was the lack of atmosphere, but I guess the supporters just didn’t turn up and not much to do apart from look at the glorious surrounding hills. I am sure these events are a nightmare to organise so well done to them and I would defiantly do it again and recommed it. Date of review: June 19, 2011

2011 Brathay Windermere Marathon

In short: If only every marathon was as well organised! If only every marshal was as friendly as this! If only every spectator pushed you along the whole route as they did! Brathay you did it! In full: FANTASTIC! I was a very happy marathon runner on Sunday I could not fault this one! Registered on the Saturday and the volunteers where very helpful, parked on the grass 50 yards from the finish line! Wow! Family enjoyed the entertainment and fun day whilst I was running and everyone seemed to have a smile on there face. I personally did not find it has hilly as some are saying and would not be put off if you are a beginner and think there are massive hills, more moderate undulations although I am used to running marathons such as Snowdon, north Devon, Brighton trail, Hebden bridge etc etc. The scenery is lovely and on a nicer day could make you want to stop and admire the beauty of the lakes rather than putting in a good time, unfortunately Snowdon is still my favourite marathon of all time but this one would rank up there. Well done the 10 in 10 a fantastic achievement in difficult weather conditions a massive life time achievement, being an ultra marathon mad runner I would love to do the 10 in 10 next year and raise thousands for Brathay. Watch this space!
Thank You Brathay Windermere Marathon!
