In short: My new most favourite race ever! In full: Ice, Mud, water, ice, water, mud, a few hills, alligators and more water! What an absolute blast this race is. It has a lovely laid back feel and feels very inclusive. The organisation was fantastic and the marshals were all lovely (despite the fact that they must actually have been freezing to death out there!)
I've never done a race like this before but it was brilliant fun (despite regretting going for the 15km option before the start) and I will definitely be doing it again AND going for 15km again.
Brilliant T-Shirt, already worn with pride. Would be nice to get a medal wherever you come (after all us slow coaches were cold and wet for longest!)
See you next year! Date of review: January 19, 2015
In short: Great race, scenic, well organised, lovely marshals In full: I wasn't in a race kind of mood but this was well organised, had lovely friendly marshals and very scenic route. The last couple of miles are a bit of a killer but the ice lolly at the end more than made up for those! Date of review: June 19, 2013
In short: Fantastic race, definitely made by the incredibly supportive marshalls In full: This is a great race and I would thoroughly recommend it to everyone.
Yesterday was unseasonably hot but there was still plent of (ice cold!) water, even right at the back of the field. Energy drinks AND jelly babies also available.
I tend to be at the back of any race and can often find that the marshalls are a bit bored by the time I get there but not at this race. I think that my finish time was almost definitely improved by the support and encouragement they gave out even when they'd been stood out there for several hours. Thank you!
My only minor gripe would be that the changing tents could do with something on the floor. Wet socks before the start of a race is not a good plan.
ooh, nearly forgot to say that the nice technical t-shirt was a bonus too! Date of review: March 12, 2012
In short: Great race, exceedingly well organised with very special touches! In full: I loved this race. We were given warning (by the town crier) that 3 guns would start the race. This didn't stop us all leaping 10 feet in the air when they did! A good steady race with a very uplifting band at the 7 mile mark and a sole fiddler to help you up the last hill! Gorgeous cakes at the end. Will definitely be back next year!
In short: What a beauty - my toughest race yet but all made worthwhile! In full: This race definitely has it all, the uphill stretches are made even tougher by the fact that a lot of them are on rough stony ground...followed by 'those' steps! Full marks to the marshall at the top of them, I had my head down and hearing that I'd nearly made it to the top made my day!!!! The first glimpse of Corfe on the way back is totally amazing and gives you the boost you need to finish in style! (oh yes style...did I mention all the stiles and how huge they seem from mile 10 - 12!!) Oh and I didn't see this advertised as an HM...everything I saw said 12-13 miles....
Will deffo be back next year! Date of review: September 5, 2010
In short: My first ever half marathon and it was fantastic!!! Very tough hills but marshalled fantastically and loads of support along the way In full: This was a great race for me. I still have a warm fuzzy feeling now! It was my first half marathon and my legs definitely didn't feel like my own after the second long long looooong hilly section. There were loads of very well manned water and sponge stations along the way and the seafront finish is definitely a great boost exactly when you need it!
As for the momentos - they said at the prizegiving that were loads more entries on the day than they had ever had before and that they would get more momentos made and would post them out to people. They couldn't have been more apologetic. I'm not sure how they plan to work out who didn't have them but I'm sure an email to the race secretary would be all it would take for those that missed out.
I had a fantastic time and will back for more next year (if my thighs ever stop aching......) Date of review: July 19, 2010
