In short: Amazing race - If you run it hard you will be quick In full: OK, for reasons of full discloser I should state I'm a TWH so will have a certain affection for this race obviously.
However, this year I did very little on the helping side and opted to run.
As such I can say with limited personal bias that this race is pretty much perfect. Organisation, facilities, course, marshals, pace groups, water stations, results provision – all were outstanding.
The course profile is absolutely challenging and a firm test for any level of runner. That said, it’s not inherently slow and PB’s can be achieved - for all that up, there’s a good deal of down. If you run it hard you will be quick….maybe a quivering wreck by the end, but quick.
Stand-outs for me on the day were:
1.30 pacers – you know who you are
Post run sports massage – team of at least 5 people kept very busy putting broken runners back together and all for a suggested donation of £5.
On route music – mostly bands and drummers, which really does make a difference.
In short: Fast, but tough at the same time In full: It was well organised, facilities were good and the course was a great blend of ups, downs, and flat. Do save a little for the last hill though :) Date of review: September 6, 2012
