In short: Fantastic support!
In full: Having made something of a mess of my first marathon (inaugural Kielder in 2010, not the one when the bloke cheated) I had trained very purposefully for this one, and I had outside hopes of a sub-3.30 marathon.
In the event, I was overjoyed with the 3.40.27 I posted; yes, the heat was sapping but what an experience! If it hadn't been for the sun, we wouldn't have had all those wonderful people, showering us literally and metaphorically with water, jelly babies, fruit, sunscreen (particularly welcome for this hatless bald man - elected not to wear a hat as I get far too hot in them), good wishes etc.
Two minor complaints: buses far too far away from the finish; pesky relay runners - find another race for them if they're not fit enough to do a full marathon - many carried on as if if was their race, cutting up the REAL runners.

In full: I have mixed feelings about this race. Firstly, my gripes: no safety announcement at the start, indeed no announcement, or signal, of any kind; no medal, even though we were told we would get them (don't want to sound too much like Muttley...); most worryingly, an utter dearth of marshalls on the course itself - I only failed from taking the wrong turn once by glimpsing the heels of the runner ahead as s/he disappeared round a corner, but the absence of marshalls was highly remiss for safety reasons. Secondly, the positives, so we can end on a high: the t-shirts with all the competitors' names on the back; the free pre and post-race massages, a painful pleasure; beautiful conditions in magnificent surroundings (so what if I am a biased Cumbrian?); I was more than happy with my 1:40:05. I'll do it again, might even do the marathon next year, but please -more 'high visibility' marshalls.

In full: Great fun, although I thought the ascent went on and on and on, and the descent was pretty steep in places. Should have been chipped, but that would have made it more pricey, perhaps. Enough of my 'twining', as we say in these parts, the terrain was wonderfully varied and there was a great family atmosphere. Now, hands up if you ran in your brand-new Puma Nightfox trail shoes...

In short: Maybe my view is slanted as I'm local, but a pretty decent 10k all told. May have got a PB, but TBC

In short: Heat and hills (sorry, 'bumps') do not an enjoyable run make. Tough.

In short: Fantastic effort by organisers to get this moving after the night's snow. Some softies didn't show!
