In short: Unsung hero
In full: What a great event, I was lucky enough to get a place for both days. I really enjoyed the course, I think it goes without saying that entering these sort of self navigate races you are going to take the odd wrong turn now and then!

On the whole Chris and his team did a pretty good job with the directions. On day two it certainly helped having run large sections of the course the previous day - only went wrong once!

Fantastic value for money, puts many of these big city centre marathons to shame. Looking forward to the Good Friday marathon that Chris is organising. Always good to meet and run with new people.

In short: Great event, shame about the toilets
In full: Really enjoyed the course, varied and interesting. It's obviously a race that is growing in stature. I agree with all the previous positive comments, my only gripe would be the lack of toilets at Race HQ. They only had two available for the men, one of which soon became out of order! The queue was at one stage over 40 deep.

For a race that size they really do need to get some portaloos in. The nearby public toilets were quite disgusting, the flushes were not working and the stench made your stomach churn. Admittedly not the organisers fault, but it didn't help the situation.

One other little moan; what stopped anyone walking into race HQ and helping themselves to any bag they liked from the baggage store. It really should have manned.

That said, I would certainly not rule out a return, despite the 7 hour round trip.

In short: OGM!...
In full: It was my 50th and hardest marathon to date. I ran it last year and was 50 minutes quicker, that gives you some idea of how hot it was out there this year. The course is without doubt, simply stunning. The views are awesome and this year I had time to take them in!

I know a lot of runners pulled out at half way, but please don't alter the course, the second half is for me what makes the race such a great challenge.

Top marks to Simon and his team for providing us with so many water stations, a real life saver! My feet are sore this morning and my legs aching, but I know I'll be back next year.

In short: Home territory
In full: A must for me as it's on my home patch, I do lots of long training runs on sections of the route, so I knew what to expect! The clay pits road is not the best, but once you get off that it's pretty good. A good testing hill, especially second time round.
The marshals were a bit on the quite side (not like Eden!) but generally I would have to say an average sort of race. That said it's one I would do again.

In short: Spot on!......
In full: What a cracking marathon, I couldn't fault it, everything was perfect, and to think that was only the second time the organisers have staged it. Superb value, an excellent quality medal, t.shirt, pint & a pasty and free entry for the family as well (a lovely touch).
Special thanks to the wonderful marshals, who I can honestly say were the friendliest I have have ever encountered during my 25 years of running.
Here's to next year!........

In short: Different!................
In full: That was my first LDWA marahton, and I have to say I really enjoyed it. As a first timer in such an event I found the map reading a little tricky, therefore it wasn't such a surprise that I ended up doing an extra mile! Next time I would take a water bottle, as there were only 4 water stations (check points) and with it being quite a warm day, I got pretty thirsty!

The course was great, you certainly saw Birmingham in a different light, and at only £8 it was a real bargain.

In short: A real cracker!
In full: Reading through last years reviews I was a little worried about getting lost, however I couldn't fault the signage on the course. Really well marked out (not an easy task when so much is off road) and lots of friendly marshals and water stations.

The two hills were tough if only for the fact they came late on in the race (19 & 25 miles). But that said, I really enjoyed it, and would certainly recommend it. Thank you Langport Runners

In short: Hills what hills!..................
In full: Made the long trip up from Devon for what was my first Wolverhampton marathon. I was very impressed with the organisation and friendliness of the marshals, but the big disappointment was the course - the word dull is definitely being polite! The smell from the sewer works second time round was stomach churning! That said if you're looking for a PB course then this one is a 'good un'. To all those who thought that course was undulating, come down to Devon and try some of our races!!!! Wolverhampton is like running in Holland........

In short: OMG!............
In full: That was some race, my hardest marathon to date (3.48). If you only did the half, you were lucky! - Those climbs between 15 & 19 were something else, made the grizzly look easy!!! The sea breeze saved the day, without it it would have been unbearable. Couldn't fault the organisation, course was well marked and plenty of water stations. 10 out of 10 especially as it was the first time it was staged. I'll be back next year - I think!!!!

In short: Gem of a race
In full: So lucky with the weather, if we had run it in reverse it would have been a different story, the wind was horrendous. Quite a bit of weaving, avoiding the pot holes and walkers, but still a cracking race.
