In short: Nice route. Good organisation. In full: Very enjoyable. Thanks to all for organising. Home town race past the end of my street so definitely do it again, but even so a great race. Date of review: October 24, 2012
In short: Nice, but... In full: Big thanks to the marshals- truly astonishing weather and they must have been out in it for 5+ hours. Worth bearing in mind that the decision to cancel the full and just run the half is only partly about the runners but also about the marshals et al who have to stay out there. That said organisation needs improvment- from past reviews appears fine until they have to deal with something like the atrocious weather on this occasion. To some extent I don't mind a limited goody bag- I know this when I choose to race, but a shame that the year is not on the medal. Date of review: May 1, 2012
In short: Great for PB In full: Flat and quick except for cobbles in last 200m. Stayed overnight within walking distance of start so didn't notice traffic issues. Agree some extra markers at last 5,4,3,2, 100 metres would be good. Don't mind limited goody bag as the medal was the best I've seen. Didn't even notice chip bins and ended up posting chip back later. Good crowd support. Nice finish in castle. Date of review: April 12, 2012
In short: Very good In full: Excellent race, good atmosphere, etc.
Minor gripes: would like a few more, and more obvious signs, to baggage drop off and start. Marshalls saying "Oh, it's at the NIA" as though everyone know where's that it is. Also the first train from Coventry (having driven there as the nearest feasible station and as judging by the numbers many others did) doesn't reach B'ham until 9:06. The NIA is more than the 5 mins walk from new street the info suggests and very tight timings for a 10:00 start. I know the trains are somewhat beyond the organisers control but surely train operators could be persuaded to put an extra one on 30mins earlier. (Or perhaps I'm wildly optimistic).
That said these are v minor gripes and really don't detract from a great event. Knocked 7 mins off my Cov time 3 weeks ago and a PB at that so can't complain at all. Date of review: October 24, 2011
In short: Nice new route, some lessons to learn In full: A different route to 2010 and better for it. Reasonably challenging though and certainly not flat.
Some organisational issues- we all knew it was going to be a hot one (again) but organisation not adjusted to take account of this. Glad I was not the only one who couldn't see the 12 mile marker- very annoying to pull round the corner and realise you could have kicked in sooner. No time markers at start although road wide enough and did not seam to cause a problem.
Goody bags- curious. Don't bother with the junk mail, slider puzzle or passport wallet- save the paper. Mine went straight in the bin and I'd guess so did 99% of other's.
Splendid support from people of Cov.
Overall a nice route and local for me so I'd do again. Organisational gripes not a deal breaker but need fixing. Date of review: October 5, 2011
