In short: Well worth the trip In full: This is my second time of doing this marathon. And yet again we were rewarded with breathtaking views over the sea and glorious weather. The inclines were a little steeper than I remembered from last year but spectators loud and encouraging. Love the medal and t-shirt. Good shade of pink, not sure how the fellas feel about the colour though. Date of review: October 6, 2014
In short: Sun, sand, sea and slog.... But worth it! In full: Yes there was a cruel twist going through the finish with 8 miles to go. Yes there was a hill at 18 miles and am proud to say I shuffled up it without walking! Yes needed more water on the last loop particularly in that weather. Yes, there are never enough toilets at the start but were plenty along the way. But the Marshall's were great and support fabulous. My fellow runners were awesome and someone always seemed to come along when I was having a low moment and inspire me to carry on. I thank you all! Date of review: October 9, 2013
In short: Worth doing in spite of the monsoon conditions In full: Positives Well done to all marshalls and spectators that supported during god awful conditions. I didn't see many bands (just two) but to be honest I can't really blame them. Never been to be MK before - it was greener and more scenic than I thought it would be. I parked in the park and ride at out Furzon Lake. It was really well organised and there were loads of shuttle buses - I didn't have to wait at all.
Negatives I measure the course at 26.5 miles as well. I thought it was my garmin but feel better that it wasn't just me. Space blankets are a real must, particularly in light of the torrential weather. Hot drinks need to be available - the one I had was luke warm. There does need to be a bigger finish. It was great finishing in the stadium but the finish line was woeful! Date of review: May 1, 2012
In short: An embarassment! In full: I have never in my life had to queue to cross the finish line. It was an embarassment! This is the third time Birmingham have held this race and they should be able to get it right by now. They knew there would be 15000 runners - it should not have come as a surprise!
