In short: Review for 2012: 'I'll be back'
In full: This was my first Great north run and hopefully not my last.I thought the atmosphere was fantastic and I got a real boost from being amongst so many other runners,I've only ever done 2 halfs before and the number of runners was less than a tenth of this one's.
As I'm from Peterborough which must be one of the flattest areas in the country I was worried about the hills but at the risk of bragging I hardly noticed the inclines at all and if anything I found it easier than the local Great eastern run, maybe I just had a good day.
I do think this race could have been improved if there was a way of encouraging the slower runners to leave part of the race line open for those attempting to overtake as I often found myself having to dodge slower runners but to be fair to the organisers it was probably my fault for underestimating my finish time and therefore starting in a slower group.
For those travelling by public transport be prepared for a long wait for the Metro back into Newcastle,me and my son had to wait well over an hour but even this wasn't so bad as the great atmosphere of this run even extended to the queuing afterwards.
Overall: it was a Great day and I will certainly be back.

In short: My first half marathon but not last
In full: As this was my first 'proper' run over any distance i'm probably not the best person to rate this against other races but I certainly enjoyed it from start to finish. As a peterborian I am probably biased but I thought there was great public support throughout the race with some people even manning their own mini drink stations .If I had one complaint it was that the overall distance between the start and finish lines was slightly over 13 miles,if only they would shorten that distance by 13 miles or so but apparently that would mean that this race was no longer technically a half marathon, how fussy!
