In short: Road closures, shuttle buses... Not in this race! In full: My email to the organisers...
I just want to say how disappointed I am with the organisation of this event today.
I was a late entrant, so paid 35 pounds for my entry, plus 3 pounds for the shuttlebus.
Firstly, the road was not closed off... I had to run around roundabouts with oncoming traffic and was almost hit by a car... TWICE!
When I got to the turning onto the trail just after 5 k, the Marshall (an older gentleman) had his back to me, I shouted to ask where to go and he turned and pointed and said head straight down there. I saw two young girls marshalling stood by cones, ran towards them, and again had to shout 'where am I going'. They indicated that I had missed the turning, and owing to a barrier I had to go back on myself, and the person behind me saw this error and was able to avoid it before it happened to him, losing me about 20 seconds, and morale!
The different events confused things, and made it very difficult on the small trail paths, as I had to stop on a few occasions as people were walking or running very slowly, taking up the whole path, and others did not hear my call to get out of the way as they had headphones in. Being a front runner you would not expect congestion half way into the race!
This race finished with me having to stand in a huge queue for transport that never arrived. I heard from organisers that the transport did not come, and some spectators said on the way there the driver was rude, got lost and said he might just go home. Before I booked the bus I asked how frequent they would be and I was informed 'every 15 minutes'. I waited 45 minutes and then a coach that had been parked there the whole time, but was not supposed to be for us, decided to take people. Unfortunately there was not enough room for us all, and although I believe I finished 8th in my event and went straight to the bus point, I did not make it onto the bus. With no sign of the shuttle buses I contacted my driver to meet me on the main road and decided not to wait any longer for the imaginary shuttle buses. . It is a shame, what spcould be a great event was ruined for me by a catalogue of errors... Many of people in the queue felt the same. Date of review: October 28, 2012
In short: Great race... not so sure about value! In full: This is the third year i have run bath, and i came out with a great PB! The race and the atmosphere is great. The one problem is the cost, and value for money. I know races are getting more expensive as the popularity increases, but only a few years ago this race was £30, now next years event has been advertised at an 'early bird discount' of £39! There was not a lot in the goody bag, and i actually think the medal has got worse, they do give a top, but this year all they had was large cotton ones (and this is not what was left over, this is all the started with). Lucazade were there sponsors again but did not have their tent this year as it was at Silverstone, they gave out drinks, but were in very short supply of bars/gels, in fact i did not get any and i turned up 2 hours before race start! Overall, i am not entirely sure if this race is worth it any more... UNDECIDED for next year! Date of review: March 14, 2012
In short: Great Race, shame about the Chip timing... In full: I am very disappointed in the chip timing of this race. In all my previous races chip timings are secured by sandwich bag ties, on this occassion we were given paper with adhesive. And suprise, suprise, many fell off during the race. When mine fell off i was luck to have noticed, went back and picked it up, knocking a bout 30 seconds off my time, and then when i finished i had to then take it out of my pocket and put it down on the floor. It has registered as 8 seconds slower than my watch recorded, owing to m having to come back and run my chip over the sensor, in all disappointed with the arrangements. To make matters worse a report by the BBC had a 'spokeswoman' stating that runners had been informed to tie their shoe laces around the chip: a) this did not happen, i was not given this information, and b) i would not do this, as on previous races when you rech the end the chips are cut off by the marshals, and i am not about to have my laces cut by 'race officials!' Over 900 others did not receive a chip time, so i should count myself lucky really! Medal was very good, and everything else was great! Date of review: September 5, 2010
