In short: Great race, but some tips for organisers to make it better
In full: Enjoyed this race, 1st GSR for me. Fab atmosphere and the 5k split mats are good. People are moaning about the speed of orange wave runners, yes it was busy and a little inconvenient, but how many people ran continuously faster splits? Only those that did have a point. Perhaps the organisers could put in more pacers in, say <60min, <65min, <70min etc. I only saw one pacer at 1:20, I moved way forward, but was surrounded by runners running 8min miles, didn't bother me too much, just kept overtaking, think I was only overtaken by a couple of guys the whole race. More pacers could prevent people tripping up/accidents. Great day out!

In short: PB potential for those who can cope with the heat!
In full: OK, I'm still heatbroken; was so sure I'd run 3:20 or less; all going so well at halfway, split at 1:38 even with a loo stop at 8/9 miles built in, this is going to be OK I thought, got loads in the tank. Kept same pace going into mile 15, got hosed by an old guy down that stretch - made me realise things were hotting up, getting tougher at the switchback circa 16m and a bit more so at 17. People were starting to drift by me by 18 and I started feeling tired. By mile 19 must have dropped at least a minute a mile, by 20 even more so. The wall, why the hell is that there? It's just stupid - I didn't need to be reminded I'm hitting 20 miles!! As for that song bellowing out 'Hit the Road Jack' God I hate that song with passion, talk about melancholy, only to hear it again the other way. Nasty. Shoreham is horrible enough, only positive thing about that area is the shade you can get off the warehouses towards the turn. Overall I enjoyed most of the race, but the last 3 miles were hell. If anyone knows # 5860 (Russell) that finished in 3:39 let him know Phil says thanks for the support at 23m/24m, I didn't say thanks at the time, was all too bl00dy dejected knowing I'd blown the target. Often helped others out when they've been struggling in other events, so nice to get something back. Stupid thing is I let time slip away and didn't give it all over those last 3 miles, just stopped caring. 15c and cloudy would have made my year, well that's my excuse. Positive thing is that I know I'll come back stronger.

In short: Hard to beat for friendliness and value, terrific event!
In full: This was my 2nd TW Half, it's an hours drive for us - which says a lot really. I ran it last year as a VLM warm up, but was so impressed with the organsation and support I had to do it again. One of the many pluses is that I can bring the whole family along and the kids can go into the creche for an hour or two. Simply a superb race, I didn't find Spring Hill tough at all, but I train on on hills all the time. If you put the hill training in prior you'll enjoy the race that much more! Superb.

In short: My first hog, but, bah, not 8.2 miles, that's not what I wanted to hear, I thought I'd gone under 6:30 a mile, was well chuffed. Oh well. Will do better next year.

In full: This is a great course. I enjoyed it and improved on my 2009 time by 9 minutes (that's no typo). I thought the start and finish swaps from last years race was a bit mad though, didn't see anyone fall on the last 500m but bet it happened because there was heavy competiton for the first 30 places. IMO - should start the race on that hill not finish on it. Superb nonetheless.
