In short: Not perfect, but not as bad as many people seem to suggest! Great to have an event on a Saturday! In full: I think that people are being a bit harsh with this review, although I agree that there are elements which could be improved. Parking was a pain, I was a good mile from the start line, but there was an email sent out, and I do have legs, so I can walk that far, some events require a shuttle bus to the start/finish, so a 15 minute walk isn't the end of the world. 4 laps around a lake is always going to be flat and a little dull, but we all knew that when we signed up so it's unfair to be too critical. Medal was awful, but I dont usually keep them anyway, a training t-shirt would be much more useful. £27 is pricey to be fair.
Improvements would be a good PA system so that co-ordination could be much improved (and people could hear the delayed start time), more water at the end, even a banana would be good.
Great PB potential on a less windy day, nice supply of water and lucozade on the way round, pacers for almost all abilities has to be commended, and although it has received criticism for being repetitive, Dorney lake is a lovely area in which to run.

In short: A well organised, low key marathon, good value, felt the hills on the third lap In full: Well organised, lots of marshalls , minimal but friendly support, nice medal. My only gripes are the same as others, would have really like a BOTTLE of water at the end and a HOT shower.
Didn't actually ever receive my race pack but turned up at the info desk on the day and explained the situation and was given a new number straight away, hassle free. Thanks.
Overall a very good race. Date of review: January 23, 2012

In short: Cold, crisp, well organised, not much support, good way to end the year In full: Great use of a free and efficient park and ride system to keep the local area free from congestion. Nice cagoule as a momento but would have happily exchanged that for a few BOTTLES of water (not cups) and a banana at the end.

In short: Nice run, nice scenery In full: Well organised 10k in a very picturesque setting, lots of marshalls with encouraging words, very flat so PB potential aside from the wet ground making it a touch wet/soft underfoot. Date of review: July 17, 2011

In short: Small, friendly race, lovely route, very hot, tacky t-shirt In full: Some very good runners for a such a small field, well organised, friendly affair, kids fun run before was good to watch and made it all the more a friendly event. Undulating throughout so not really PB material, but very enjoyable nevertheless. Date of review: July 8, 2011

In short: Early start, well organised, 2 decent hills, very generous goody bag! In full: the only race so far where i have been given a cheese & onion pasty and a muffin afterwards (and lots of nice SIS recovery products too!). Date of review: June 1, 2011

In short: Early start, fast course, low key event, great race! In full: Early start well wort it to avoid traffic as roads were not closed. Well organised, well marshalled, fast course, with minimal but friendly support (probably due to early start). I would like a lot more races like this, cheaper to enter, no razzamatazz, just a friendly, well organised event, with people running solely for the enjoyment of running. Great race Ranelagh , will be back next year.

2010 New Forest Marathon

In short: Not a bad race, but poor parking arrangements and different start/finish areas made meeting up difficult In full: Queued for about 20 mins along the entrance road, then had to wander about a quarter of mile to the start, join a massive queue for the toilets and bag drop and missed the start by a few minutes so I think the organisation was lacking. Having said that, once on the course the route was lovely, well marshalled, and enjoyable. A few fairly tough hills so PB's would be tough, but also some big, drawn-out down hills to make the time back. Rubbish goody bag, but you get what you pay for, and this was a cheaper race to enter.

In short: Enjoyable, well supported, a bit hilly over the first half. nice t-shirt and medal, good park and ride system. In full: Enjoyable, very well supported for the first year, a bit hilly over the first half, but with lovely views, only negative as far as the route is concerned are the few miles through the industrial estate from about mile 21 to 24 which were horrible at that stage in the race. Nice t-shirt and medal, good park and ride system in and out, overall a really good race Date of review: September 9, 2010
