In short: Decent, traffic-free course with PB potential... In full: This was my first time out in this 10k and I wasn't disappointed.
I quite enjoyed the two laps (not something that I usually like), but the course was more undulating than I expected, with the latter 2k's (4/5 & 9/10) the toughest. It still has PB potential though (I was bang on mine today). Traffic/pavement-free running was another plus point, while easy parking and good marshalling topped things off nicely!
My only gripe was the lack of signage to race HQ. I was one of the early birds and, with the front of the Harlington Centre not being opened until well past 08:30, we were left scratching our heads as to where to go. Still, at least I'll know for next year! Date of review: October 27, 2013
In short: As good as ever... In full: Aside from the 'bumpy' pavement section between miles 5-7 (pavements are one of my pet hates for any race!) there really is nothing to moan about with the Gosport Half, which delivers the goods year after year.
With its excellent organisation and facilities, coupled with easy parking and good access to toilets (Stokes Bay is my favoured base), this race really has everything covered. Oh and let's not forgot that it is built for speed (wind permitting), so a PB should always be in your sights.
Thank you Gosport Road Runners. See you again in 2013! Date of review: November 18, 2012
In short: Well organised/marshalled and great for PBs... In full: This was my first time running this race and I wasn't disappointed; the marshals were fantastic and the organisation was excellent! A big thank you to all concerned.
My only (minor) gripes were the few awkward twists and turns, the narrow footpath bits, and the pavement sections (bearable early on, but no fun after 20 or so miles in your legs!), although oddly enough the infamous underpass section didn't bother me at all! Plus I quite liked the industrial estate, as it was smooth under foot, wide open, and traffic free.
All-in-all I thought it was a very good event and I will be back to grab another PB in 2013! Date of review: October 22, 2012
In short: An excellent race that won't disappoint! In full: I gave this race a go on the strength of previous reviews and was not disappointed.
Aside from the excellent organisation and easy parking (I enjoyed the one mile warm-up/cool-down to/from the overflow car park by the way), this 10 mile course has to go down as one of my favourites.
Gentling undulating I think best describes it, with lots of downhill sections and only a couple of brief inclines to speak of (in the second half, definitely the tougher section), all of which means that this race has definite PB potential!
The big digital clock at halfway (5m) was a nice touch too (made all the better for the time I saw on it!).
Thank you Reading Roadrunners. See you in 2013! Date of review: February 12, 2012
In short: Good race benefitting from new start... In full: Although it now starts with a climb up College Lane, this race is made all the better for not going round the housing estate in the opening stages. The rest of the course remains unchanged, so we still get to enjoy one of the kindest run ins on the 10k calendar! Everything else as good as before, although the traffic management seemed much improved, particularly between 2 & 4k. Date of review: February 6, 2012
In short: As good as ever! In full: This is a superb event, for many different reasons, which everyone should either run, jog, or walk at least once in their lives. Whatever way you do it you will not be disappointed! Roll on 2012. Date of review: October 28, 2011
In short: An enjoyable race in the Park... In full: Overall an enjoyable race (even better once I'd finished ;-) with some nice scenery, as you'd expect, and some great local support and marshalling to boot.
The only let downs I thought were the car park signage (poor for the main race car park in particular) and some busy traffic on the road sections, which was exacerbated in the earlier stages by the back markers from the half marathon. This made for some tricky running at times and IMHO an hour gap between the two races would be much better.
Oh and I nearly got mown down by a man cycling with a black dog on a lead!?! Did anyone else see that maniac? Date of review: September 29, 2011
In short: Well run, low key race. In full: I agree with the Chris below. PB potential, but just a bit too twisty (there are two u-turns) for a really fast one. A warmer day would certainly help too! But all-in-all a very good event. Date of review: December 2, 2010
