In short: Very well marshalled In full: The weather was not great but a big plus was the marshalls who were fantastic and plentiful along with the police cadets. Very much enjoyed the flapjack at the end as well :-)
Now the bad. The medal wasn't great, expected better for an anniversary event. Didn't like having to walk back to race HQ for the t-shirts at the end. The biggest issue though was the lack of portaloos. I can understand if it was a new event but very disappointing for one that has been going for a while.
One of the few I wouldn't rush back for to be honest. Date of review: November 2, 2014
In short: Great support In full: Great weather and picturesque course. Few hills so no PB potential but after the first one the rest didn't seem too bad. I've run 30+ halfs and I don't remember the last one that was so well supported. Very well organised and no issues with parking. Date of review: October 5, 2014
In short: Flat but windy In full: Had to miss this race last year with a chest infection so glad to make it to the start line in one piece. Directions to the car park were great and short walk to the start. Race itself was very nice but must have slowed down quite a bit near the end as not as quick a time as I'd expected but likely down to the strong wind. Only issue I had was finding the car park afterwards as it's quite a way from the start but partly my fault for not looking into this before the race. Date of review: April 10, 2014
In short: Overpriced In full: Race itself was fine with good signage and marshals. Only issue for me was no mile 12 marker. Apparently there was a lack of portaloos at start but being local this was not an issue I noticed.
My disappointment was saved for the end with the worst medal I've ever received at an event. For £24 expected much better and first time I've seen halves of banana give out at the end. Very tight organisers bearing in mind over 800 entrants and only £1k went to Willen Hospice.
Cannot recommend as much better local races about. Date of review: December 15, 2013
In short: Fast and Scenic In full: Well organised with buses getting you to the start. Very scenic along the loch although no sign of nessie. The majority of the run is surprisingly downhill/flat. There are a couple of hills at mile 5 and mile 19 but nothing to worry about. Not that much support along most of the route due to the road closures but once you hit the outskirts of Inverness the atmosphere is fantastic. Great medal, t-shirt and goody bag. The only thing that left me disappointed was the pasta party the day before. Expected larger portions and better quality. Managed a PB so obviously recommend the race. In short: Don't have to beat the train to enjoy it In full: Great event, 1st 7 miles very quick but once you make the turn that's where the challenge begins. The wind and rain didn't make it easy meaning I fell over once and not the only one. Great support from the marshalls and fantastic atmosphere in the town and also several places along the route. Missed beating the train by just over a minute but will certainly give it another go. Some decent off-road trainers and better weather is hopefully all I need :-) Great goody bag including super medal and t-shirt. If I was being picky I'd say have a few more portaloos and for god sake give the job of giving people their train tickets at Friday registration to someone who isn't a miserable git. That was the first person we met when we arrived and thank god not everyone was like that. Date of review: August 18, 2013
In short: Well Organised and lovely course In full: Very hot day but 7 water stations were very much appreciated. Bit more hilly than expected but shade through the wooded sections thankfully. Great goody bag and thoroughly recommended. Date of review: July 14, 2013
In short: Windy but dry In full: Nice course apart from the bad road surface at mile 12 but that wouldn't have been so bad if the wind wasn't howling a gale at that point. Not too much support around the course but friendly stewards. Nice medal and good to see a banana and cereal bar at the finish. Only negative if I was really picky was getting out the car park/field was a bit of a struggle as cars appeared to be blocking the way. Date of review: June 30, 2013
In short: Disappointing organisation In full: Quite hilly but nice course. Tough being 1st half of the year so a bit slower than my usual race times but still enjoyable. Very disappointed with the water stations. Ended up missing the first due to no advance warning and the bad situation of it. The lack of any food in the goody bag was also not on. The only thing in it was old ASICS merchandise presumably from the cancelled 2012 half as ASICS pulled out of sponsoring it this year. That said ASICS must have been pleased as punch as the organisers still bizarelly used ASICS mile markers and marshalls were wearing ASICS jackets. Date of review: February 7, 2013
In short: Chilly but fast and scenic In full: Very well organised. Didn't use the buses as was able to park reasonably close by. Not many spectators but it was cold. Ended up with a faster time than I expected so pretty fast course. Only bad point was having to queue up for water at the end. Shame the t-shirt was replaced with a rucksack as could have done with it. Date of review: December 16, 2012
