In short: fell race on the road
In full: I had been out of action for a few months, using this race to fall in love with running again. Great race, challenging 4.5 miles of hills then rest downhill. The roads were icy, but thats what you expect this time of year. Just be careful. The pudding and water at end were welcomed, times printed 30 mins after winner finished. Good value food on offer too. A great annual race.

In short: a fun run
In full: This is a race for beginners really. The 10k run wasn't without it's hold ups. at about half way the 10k runners merged with the 5k runners, and a crowd of people walking in front of you is not very good when you'd like to get finished the same day. The water obstacle was 'ok' the hills were steep enough and the other novelty obstacles were a bit different. oversllis was a bit of fun. You won't get a PB, but for beginners it's a good race. People who run quite serious and like to go all out and get a good time should maybe give this one a miss. The price wasn't really reflected in the race and post race goody bag either so your pocket won't feel like it missed out either.

In short: worth entry fee just for goody bag alone.
In full: It was my 4th race, 2nd trail race. I've never ran 13 miles before but i'm fairly fit so no drama. Just 1h40m of fun, wet muddy exercise. Some good hills to tire the legs. The goodies were amazing, choice of water or chocolate or banana for goodness shakes drink at finish. Salomon technical t-shirt and a goody bag that included:1 salomon pen(4 colours), 1 sanex deodorant spray, 1bull bog natural moisturiser, 1 pack of milled organic flaxseed, 1 pack milled flaxseed and goji berries, 1 nature valley granola bar, 1 fruit school bar, 4 ginger hard candies, 1 Science In Sport energy gel, 1 SIS energy powder mix, with all that stuff you could go round again. Don't be afraid to do a 1/2 marathon, it doesn't feel much tougher than a 10k. If you only do one 1/2 marathon all year, do this one.

In short: bittersweet-hard hills, beautiful scenery.
In full: This was my second race and my first fell race. It was mainly club runners but I felt very welcome, everyone was polite. I wanted a new challenge and this was a perfect introduction to fell running. It only cost £6 and it mas fairly easy to get to via public transport. Train to kendal, 106 bus to Orton (bus stop is just at side of train station to the left near tunnel. The race route was fully flagged, and the marshals, locals were very supportive at the end followed by a much deserved drink of water. Free tea and cake afterwards was a nice. All in all, for it's first even it was like it had been going decades. I urge anyone who is looking for a new challenge and intro to fell running to try this. Can't wait for next year.
