In short: Absolutely stunning running along the sea front, but some long slow hills in the 2nd half of the race. In full: My 1st half marathon, and i loved it. Not that many people ran the half (although there is a 5 mile and 2 mile fun run at the same time)probably around 150-200 runners, so it never felt crowed or intimidating.
The course starts at the local college, goes through a couple of housing estates, up to the high street area and then on to Walton. After a bit of a loop you then run the glorious 2 miles along the sea front. This was just so beautiful and really helped slightly tired legs between mile 7.5 and 9.5.
But then there are the hills after 10 miles. Some long and slow, and a couple shorter steeper ones. The hill at mile 11-12 was a killer though!
The final 0.1 mile was back at the college around the playing field and then across the finish line.
A bag with a t-shirt and an apple juice was given upon completing.
Good points - the beautiful scenery, was gorgeous (helped that we had glorious weather today), the friendly and helpful marshalls, loads of water stations.
Bad points - unclear mile markers, some sections of the course were uneven and uncomfortable underfoot - but i'm nitpicking a bit here.
Overall, i would reccommend this race and i will do it again next year. Date of review: May 8, 2011
