In short: Lovely course, despite the hills. Parking could be better In full: Pros:
Beautiful scenery around the course, plenty of water stations, attentive marshals who did a great job contolling traffic on open roads (thanks!) a great bunch of fellow runners who offered support and conversation where appropriate.
Signage to parking was poor, if you're not a local it was tricky to navigate the streets of New Milton. The goodie bag could have been more generous (just a bananna would have made the difference, esp if sponsored by Waitrose (unit price 5p?)). Por communication from organisers before the race when emailed a question (no response)
None of the cons are deal breakers, but would have lifted what was a very good event to an excellent event. Date of review: September 26, 2011
In short: Great crowds, great organisation, my marathon of choice In full: I did this race in 2010 as well and the organisers listened to our feedback. The event this year was very well managed and the bonus of some lovely weather made for a great day out for spectators too.
The course can be challenging at times with a fairly undulating 1st 10 miles, but then its flat or downhill the rest of the way. Some of the out and back sections later in the course can sap morale, but who said a marathon should be easy?
I've signed up for next year already, and will continue to do so whilst this rapidly becomes Britain's 2nd marathon after london.
Well done to all organisers and thanks to all the volunteers. Date of review: April 12, 2011
