In full: I attended as a spectator, supporting 3 runners, 2 in the marathon, 1 in the half. The race is excellently organised and comprises both a full marathon, half marathon and marathon relay (4 legs). This year the course being mainly off road was very muddy due to the very recent rain. Race day itself was fairly pleasant as the rain mainly held off and there was a sense of nervous anticipation at the start. At 10:30am the runners made their way out of Salisbury on the start of their journey. The organisation along the course was very impressive and all junctions and road crossings were well marshalled and signposted clearly to road users. The relay changeovers were slick, and at 12:15pm the half marathon runners set off. The second half is interesting with marathon and half marathon runners battling along the course side by side. The undulating nature of the course takes its toll later on and I think that a number of runners would have been pleased to turn that last corner into the finish. Again the finish area was well organised, and for those lucky enough to win a prize, the prize giving is split into 2 parts so that the early finishers can get their awards and head home. Well done to all involved and thanks to all the volunteers without who these events would not happen. Date of review: October 4, 2010
