In short: Great in parts/Less so in others In full: This was my first ever full length marathon - so perhaps my views are slightly biased.
Initial registration was simple, with regular emails sent from the guys at EMF to keep me updated with all that was going on with the event itself.
Getting through to Ediburgh by pulic transport was simple enough, and the team collecting bags before the gun time friendly.
As the course started there were plenty of water stations and lucozade stations dotted throughout, most of them had a couple of portaloos assigned to them.
As far as the course terrain/area goes it was fairly flat, going through a mixture of residential (not so nice), along a coast road (nicer), then through a country park (nicest). I'm sure had it been glorious sunshine all the way it would have been ten times better. Running into the wind and rain couldn't be helped though!
Re. The portaloos - They could have done with more - I lost 6 minutes waiting to use a portaloo for there to be no toilet paper, then to run on to the next one and wait a further 4 minutes. To have lost 10 minutes off of my time through poorly stocked/sporadic toilets was a bit of a downer as my finish time was 03:32:09 and I would have loved to have finished sub 3:30.
The finish line was sooooooooooooo quiet. I'm not sure what the organisers had in mind by preventing spectators from viewing the finish, but it made for a lackluster finish when it could have been so much louder!
I'll do this again next year just to make sure that I've improved my time!
I'd recommend it for the run, but not for the organisation. Date of review: May 23, 2011
