In short: Lovely race - very friendly - interesting rather than really tough! In full: First time at this race. Really good organisation, loads of "facilities" in the tech college, no baggage or toilet queues! Much better scenery than I thought, good views across the sea, and loved the climb into the woods, even second time round. Enough technical challenge in the single-track sections to keep focussed. Good crowd support, especially considering it was a bit nippy! Thanks Weston AC, will be back!!! Date of review: February 25, 2013

In short: Great race, very well organised. In full: No gripes at all - there was a 10min queue to get into the car park, but luckily I had plenty of time and there were a good number of portaloos so only a short wait there. As it was virtually no distance to the start, it was easy to run "unsupported" by the long-suffering family for once, just dumping kit in the car. The race itself is well marshalled and very well marked every km, spot on accuracy. It's very flat, so good for a PB. Beautiful weather today added to the scenery too. In short: Wonderful race, hilly and beautiful, friendly and inclusive In full: It's certainly hilly, but the terrain is good throughout and the hills are never too long. The most challenging aspect was the icy rain (was it hail??) with 45mph wind on Beachy Head itself. Encouraged me to run faster though!! Lovely marshals, and lots of them too, no chance of a wrong turn. Soup at one checkpoint v welcome. The scenery was truly outstanding and I can't wait to do it again. I'd say add 25% to your road time though. Date of review: October 28, 2012

In short: great rural road race - no crowding and flat makes for fast times In full: Loved this; my first Cricklade Half. So much more fun than the big-city halfs with trips and elbows all round. Crowd support patchy, but vociferous! Sports centre reg and start v well organised with helpful (free) baggage staff. Loads of water and attentive marshalls. No sports drinks, but told, so brought with me. The scenery was great considering it was flat, but that also brought some serious PB potential! Date of review: October 7, 2012

In short: Fabulous - scenery and trails, but not much harder than a road marathon In full: This was my first Richmond Trail Marathon (3rd running marathon overall). This had the joy of the trail, ie minimal road pounding, but none of the difficulties of a remote setting. There were hills, but relatively short and sweet! Very friendly marshalls, and no difficulties in navigating the other park users. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a first marathon, or something a bit different having done some road marathons. Date of review: May 21, 2012

2012 Offas Orror 20K

In short: Fabulous - mud, hills, amazing scenery, great marshalls - lots of fun!! In full: This was my first Offa's Orror, and I'll definitely come back. The hills are certainly steep, and probably slower downhill because of the mud! This made the race all the more interesting, and the good mix of meadows by the river, and forest trails made it very "doable". The marshalls were really lovely people and the girls doing the cakes at the hall were amazing! What a great race. Date of review: April 22, 2012

In short: Beautiful and well organised but gritting the ice would be good! In full: I really enjoyed this, and didn't find the hills too bad, that's training in Bath I suppose! The ice mentioned before, at 1 & 8K, should really have been sorted. I could hear a marshall radioing the organisers about it as I went past. Still, it was uphill there, so not too much of an issue. The timing was very good, and like the printout. Not really fussed re goody bag, and the recovery drink was welcome. Spectators can see well in multiple places, but the cafe and all toilets were closed. I can live with portaloos, even if they don't flush, but it's not so nice for spectators. On such an icy day, some hot options other than coffee & burger van would be good. Date of review: February 5, 2012

In short: Great race, sets out to convert any runner to trails, and would succeed! In full: This was lots of fun. Yes the entry fee was higher than some, but that's what funds the fantastic organisation and the extras that make it very family friendly (my kids loved the climbing wall). The setting was beautiful, and the marshalls were friendly and supportive. The other runners in my wave (purple) were very supportive to eachother too. May not have been the same in the faster groups?! The rat store had some bargains, and I got a PB for this trail distance so treated myself! Date of review: May 22, 2011

In short: Great marathon, friendly, well-organised and scenic. In full: This was my first full marathon, and has converted me to the experience, I only thought I'd want to do one! Good camaraderie, especially in the second half made up for the more sparse support in places, which is always the way in rural races. There were places to run on verges/grass which spared my usually-offroad-running knees. Date of review: May 17, 2011
