In short: Great race, fab course, faultless organisation In full: I did both the Spring and Autumn Tempest in 2011, there were some issues, not enough toilets, no chip timing at the Autumn Tempest, so I didn't do this race in 2012.
2013, I decideed to give it another go and it was brilliant, all the issues I'd had before had been sorted, the start is now near a hanger where you can buy food and drink, and also sports nutrition should you have forgotten anything.
Easy to pick up number and chip, more than enough toilets, race started on time, marshalls were enthusiastic, the whole thing ran like clockwork.
Also a really nice touch to get a handshake from the race director at the finish.
And did I mention the course is really great as well?
Would definitely do again, one day i WILL do the spitfire! Date of review: March 4, 2013

In short: Great race, slick organisation, good value In full: This was my first Self transcendance race, and I was not disappointed! It was the 10m on saturday morning and I loved the fact I was on the train on the way home by 10am!
Organisation was super, turned up, registered within seconds, bag drop was easy and efficient. Enough toilets for number of runners, banana and snack bar afterwards, and all for £8, can't go wrong in my book! Date of review: September 13, 2012

In short: Great race, beautiful scenery, would do again In full: Richmond park is a stunning setting for a race such as this, in a way, I hope it stays small, as there were so many small touches that made this day perfect! The organisers were great at responding to queries, there was sooo much food at stations, cake/jelly babies/bananas, I only took water, but it was nice to know other stuff was available.
Nice t-shirt and vest at the end.
My only (small) niggles were, the course seemed longer than 26.2 (26.4 on my garmin) and after pembroke lodge, the path splits, and there was no sign as to which path to take.
Otherwise, what a fabulous race, amazing location and slick organisation helped this to be a race to remember! Date of review: May 21, 2012

2012 ASICS Fleet pre-London Half Marathon

In short: Great Race - awesome crowd support In full: This was my 1st Fleet half, and I loved it. took 4 mins off my PB. Organisation was good everything seemed to go without a hitch.
The thing I loved the most was the crowd support, going through the high street twice was a pleasure with all the people cheering you along. A special mention must go to the amazing support at the bend at mile 10, so many locals out offering packs of jelly babies which was EXACTLY what I needed given I didn't see the energy drinks which were meant to be on offer at mile 9!
One negative was that, on a really warm day, my husband (who also ran the race) asked for a second bottle of water after the race and was told there was only one per competitor, made it hard to rehydrate quickly after the race.
Otherwise, though, it was a great day out and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Date of review: March 26, 2012

In short: Well organised race! In full: I enjoyed this race very much, what could have been a bit of a flat fast course was made an extra bit challenging by the 2k of wet, muddy, slippery towpath from 3k to 5k. Personally, this made the race more challenging for me which I enjoyed.
Warm up was good, MC was great, many, many marshalls, especially along the main road which was a pleasant surprise!
Chocs, bananas, water and medal at the end, overall, only MINOR niggle was that, myself, my husband and my friend all (on our different GPS systems) had the race between 10.2 and 10.3k. Date of review: December 5, 2011

In short: Good organisation, challenging race, would do it again In full: Frustatingly, my garmin decided not to work, so I have no idea what the actual elevation of this race was (can anyone email me if they used a garmin) but it did seem fairly challenging, there was very little flat mostly uphill and downhill . . . and VERY muddy. This added to the race, and whilst I don't like getting wet or muddy, you forgot about this after the first puddle, and it felt like you'd really achieved something at the end when it was completed and you were covered in mud!
Good organisation, great scenery, nice t-shirt, would do this again! Date of review: November 8, 2011

In short: Good fast race, delayed start though In full: I thoroughly enjoyed this race firstly, it was beautiful by the river, however it was VERY cold, so the delayed start (due to queues of people waiting for the portaloos) was quite unpleasant. Otherwise, thought it was a good race, got a PB and nice scenery by the river. Date of review: October 18, 2011

0 Surrey Tempest 10
 | | Overall score | | 60% | | Would you do it again? | | No | | | | Details: | | Scenery | | 80% | | PB potential | | 60% | | Atmosphere | | 60% | | Organisation | | 40% | | Value | | 20% | | Beginner-friendliness | | 40% |
In short: Good course, but expensive for what you get In full: This is the second time I've done this race, and compared to the spring race, it would appear the recession has hit Events To Live!
There were 8 portaloos, even less than last time, NO CHIP TIMING . . . at £18 entry, this seems unacceptable, no goody bag like last time, and a big queue to get your plastic cup for water at the end.
It's a real shame, because the actual course itself is great, the marshalls are great, and the medal is really nice, but all totally let down by the facilities, and for the price you pay, not worth it. Date of review: September 7, 2011

In short: Challenging Race, lack of toilets ruined it for me In full: Whilst there appeared to be specific directions, my husband and I still managed to get lost, and end up with numerous others at the wrong entrance gate, no one seemed to know how to get to the right gate and was quite chaotic.
This meant whilst we should have been over an hour early, we arrived 35 minutes before the start, having spent over 1:30 in the car, I (a female) desperately needed to go to the loo, and my heart sank when I saw the queue for the porta-loos. Credit to the organisers, they tried to get all the guys in the queue to use the urinals, but that still meant with approx 800 entrants on the day, there was a large queue, and I missed the start of the race (yes, queued for over 35 minutes!)
When I did get to start, I had not had the best race preparation, stretching in the queue was about it.
The race itself was definitely challenging, undulating, certainly with some short sharp hills. I heard lots of people who signed up to the spitfire drop out after 1 lap, I certainly wouldn't have liked to have to do another lap!
Great medal, good chip timing, but I can't be doing with organisers who don't get enough toilets in for the ladies. Date of review: June 28, 2011

In short: Great race really enjoyed it In full: In the week leading up to the race, I almost had to pull out due to injury. The organisers were really helpful and friendly and were flexible in that whilst they couldn't offer a refund they said they could roll my entry over to next year. The race itself was great, awesome PB potential (even for me with a bad knee) Marshalls were good, finish had a good atmosphere, only other thing would it would have been good to see some photos, maybe at the finish line, but there wasn't anything like that. Would definitely do it again Date of review: April 19, 2011
