In short: Really tough course but beautifully scenic, great weather helped! In full: Having worn my road shoes I was surprised how much rocky offroad there was. At one point we crossed several fields, and spent several miles on a narrow root ridden muddy track. However I was glad I didn't have to do the 3+ miles on the road in trail shoes.
Luckily I didn't get lost like the others, but it was a very sparse field, and when the half marathoners stopped I didn't see another runner for a good few miles.
All in all this could be a really great race, with slightly better marshalling. The scenery was excellent, and if you aren't afraid of hills you'll love it. Date of review: September 5, 2011
In short: Great organisation, thoroughly enoyed it. In full: Much the best big city half I've done. The wave start worked well, no weaving in and out of other runners. The only small problem was getting back to College Green after the race. Everywhere seemed to be blocked off with security fences. Some signs would have helped! I reckon I walked a good mile and a half to get free of the finish line.
Please organisers put some signs up to guide us back! Date of review: September 14, 2008
In short: A shambles, a mass participation race that should do better. In full: Having done several large city marathons the organisation of this one left a lot to be desired. It seems that the organisers are cramming more and more people into a smaller and smaller space. In Bristol I spent the first 3 miles and the last 3 miles weaving in and out of people to get a pb, in Bath it was the whole race. I won't be back again. Date of review: March 20, 2008
In short: Lovely venue, beginner friendly, shame the distance was long In full: Have done this race 3 years in a row, and enjoyed the first 2. Each year the organisation has been getting better. Gutted to be aiming for a pb and find the race was 1/3 mile too long. Distinctly remember the start and finish line being in a different place last year. If the organisers can't guarantee the race will live up to it's name of a 10k I won't be doing it again next year. Date of review: February 11, 2008
In short: Great flat scenic race but organisation a bit rubbish In full: Start went well, the route was fabulous, plenty of interest, flat and beautiful scenery helped out by some gorgeous weather. The drinks station at about 2 miles was pathetic, 2 people obviously not coping. They'd got it together by the revisit at 4 miles though. It was the total lack of water at the end of the race that was a bit of a surprise. And I didn't see hide nor hair of the promised medal. I'd do it again because the route was so good, but I'll make sure I have plenty of my own water waiting for me at the end next time. Date of review: February 11, 2006
