In short: Hilly, hot, hard work but pretty route and great marshalls and aid stations In full: Nice race very similar in many ways to the South Downs marathon. The aid stations and marshalls where splendid and I think I asked the gentleman with the sponges at mile 19 to marry me. It was very hot and is a hilly course which added 1 hour to my normal time but I enjoyed it and the tec t-shirt and medal are very nice. Date of review: September 9, 2012

In short: Deserves its high praise In full: Got a place on this run after the Shakespeare wash-out 2 weeks earlier. As a result my taper was all wrong and I was coming out of the tail end of a cold. So my sub 4hr plan was shot and I cam home in 4:24. All that said this is a fantastic marathon and has now become a regular in my calender. The ability of the water stations to deliver your own drinks is a touch of pure class and makes even the slower runners, like me, feel like an elite if only for a moment. All the local villagers cheering and handing out jelly babies and extra water was equally amazing (although you my not get that in poor weather). If your into goody bags and medals, i am, this is also a brilliant race (Shakespeare take note). The only thing I would change, and it's been said by others, is charge an extra £2 and make the t-shirt a tech. Finally I think a PB might be a big ask on this race as while the short hills are not huge there are quite a few of them. Thanks Halstead running club for a great day and I will see you next year. 2012 Shakespeare Marathon

In short: £27 no goody bag or t-shirt and changed on the start line to a half due to weather In full: First things first. You can't control the weather. 2011 was so hot that some of the stations ran out of water, 2012 was so wet and windy they cancelled the full Mara and changed it to a half on the start line. You can,t control the weather. However, the route is nice but it is two laps. The main problem I have with this race is that £26 for no goody bag or t-shirt is steep to say the least. Other races do it better cheaper and if your not bothered about goodies or t-shirts the long distance walks association events don't come with either and cost about £10. So overall it was o.k but pricey. Date of review: April 29, 2012
